An interesting read about the use of images to prevent alcohol consumption. It doesn’t happen in the UK but it should!

Literally a no brainer to choose not to drink- excuse the pun!

This is very helpful to read and to see the layers of the onion being used in this recipe to poison our democracy.

I work in local gov economic development. The economy dependent on revenue from alcohol sales. It’s convenient for the govt to ignore this issue. Some strategic long term thinking needed to change drinking culture from the top - when they’re not drinking in Westminster bars! Therein lies the problem

Fascinating! Didn’t realise two large glasses of wine is binge drinking. I’m amazed I’m still alive. So glad to be 18 months AF.
Hopefully that documentary will encourage more people to be AF.

In the UK there is so much revenue from alcohol tax that people are not encouraged to stop. Is that the same in the US?

It’s totally liberating to be AF!!!

Read this report about how society is now affected by #alcohol and recommendations to improve through enablers to change. #prevention & #education towards #sobriety is crucial. #economicdevelopment must discuss alternatives to drinking culture #socialeconomy

Interesting. I work in economic development in local government. As a former drinker and now pro sobriety, I am keen to explore developing leisure economy without alcohol at its centre. I’m meeting resistance with key stakeholders due to revenue from alcohol taxes. V frustrating!

Great to see recommendations for people with lived experience to be involved in prevention. Also tackling link between suicide and alcoholism. I have bipolar. I decided to stop drinking and I’ve been stable since. No medic ever discussed drinking with me before I stopped. Change is a no brainer!

The NHS shows how alcohol impairs decision-making. Why is it still allowed in Westminster? In local government, I'd be sacked for drinking @ work, yet alcohol is deeply ingrained in political culture.

I love seeing Ant being involved. He’s been through a lot. Hopefully his story is relatable to people and it will help to reduce the stigma of addiction. Nobody chooses to be an addict.

A great piece showing the progressive views of #princessofwales thoughts on #addiction for #addictionawarenessweek. People discussing addiction is powerful! The @teamlabouruk.bsky.social now needs to focus on promoting #sobriety to support #mentalhealth in #Uk

This is such a great appointment. My bipolar is mostly stable since stopping drinking. No coincidence there! No medical professional ever discussed drinking with me before I stopped. Is the revenue from alcohol sales higher than the expenditure linked to alcohol problems? #sobriety #AF #bipolar

Great article by @gracedent.bsky.social about the gift of sobriety at Christmas. It’s great that more public figures are talking about their positive sober stories.

I’m entering my second sober Christmas season. Last year was tough but there’s more acceptance now thanks to these types of articles. 🙏@gracedent.bsky.social

I’ve not heard of this term but I think it’s very helpful as a reference to aid drinking in moderation. What do you think?

Starting off using alcohol in my teens to manage stress meant that I didn’t develop healthy coping mechanisms at a young age. This stifled my development. Stripping away alcohol in mid life has allowed for well needed self development

There is a sharp rise in alcohol related illnesses in the UK. Many attributed to increases in drinking during COVID.
This documentary highlights the risks and how people are accidentally binge drinking.

I do a lot of walking, listening to motivational podcasts, gym, reading quit lit, meditation, baking, gratitude lists, star gazing and learning new things. I have an image of a bulldozer in my head when I face a challenge and think of a reward for when I’ve overcome the challenge. WBU?
