Two paintings in process on rolled linen. Round scribbles in crayons of blue and orange and a couple colored in forms start the painting with white acrylic paint forming the painting space.

Many layers to come. Follow along. Tell me what you see.

Two new paintings.

Round scribbles → cover-up → layers.
The only predictable part.

Last night I was thinking of Sant’ Ambrogio in Milan, the original idea for the two paintings.

Next: The Selves, Part I.
Is there a Part 2?

What do you see?

A charcoal drawing in Rome. The process: cover a drying paper with charcoal. I Used an eraser to draw the sculpture and water fountain front of me. It shows steps and ceramics on the left and a horse on the right and other artifact looking vessels. I also used a piece of white charcoal to highlight details away from the shadows. It’s the only charcoal I did like this. It felt like painting.

In Rome in 2021 I created a drawing by covering the paper in black charcoal and using the eraser to create the sculpture before me. I remember how hard it was unsure of how I could create what was before me. After I got into the flow, it felt like painting. #ECK

It does look like it could be a decoration. Once again, nature’s gifts.

Pair of blue-winged teals, one with green and blue accents on its wings, the other with blue accents. Both in flight over a lake.

This is a wall at a bakery called Peinetti’s. A table with old photos of the Peinetti family with 2 chairs is in front of the wall.

Visible paintings:
1. You decide. Mixed media. Showing purple mountains, a blue hillside covered with silver leaf - I imagined houses with lights on on a hillside (Sime people see different things, thus, the title, you decide.)and a meadow with orange and red flowers.

2. Along the Mon’ oil with cold wax. That’s short for along the Monongahela as in a river in Pittsburgh. It was the end of summer with fall leaves starting. It shows a hillside with birch trees, white with black markings. Leave started to scatter orange and rust colors on the ground and in the trees. The sky is purple fading to a yellow like at sunset. For anyone who knows this area, this is a along the great Allegheny passage, a biking trail near the waterfront in Homestead.

3. The End of Fall. Acrylic painting. A few yellow leaves, hang onto trees on a hillside at Frick Park in the city of Pittsburgh. The forest floor is covered with red and brown whether rocks or leaves. Trees like birch trees, and colors, gray and white and black litter the hillside.

4. Wolf Rocks Trail. Oil. This painting is from a trail at Wolf rocks Trail at Laurel Summit State Park. That day I was on cross country skis, and I memorized the beauty of the day with. Of the day with a purple Sky fading into yellow. Blue shadows fell onto the snow.

5. Two postcard sized placards are below the paintings. One is about the artist which is me with a QR code to my website about what I do. The other one includes my contact information for my Instagram tag and my Substack. You can also find this information on my bio. Or amandamottornartist.substack.com or amandamottornartist.

This is a solo exhibition I’m having at a coffee/bakery shop called Peinetti’s in Jeannette outside of Pittsburgh. Jen had a dream of having a bakery. Every 2 months different artists have showings. This wall of my art is called “Four Seasons.” I’m rotating each wall biweekly. #BlueSkyArtShow #new

This watercolor to acrylic painting shows a blue sky from dusk to night time and a tall forest shielding a tower with a turret and a tall skinny building. The woods are in the front with lighter yellowish-greens in the front and darker leafy trees the higher you go up the tree. The tower is a yellow cream color, something like yellow ochre and white with a dark colored turret. The tall building is a light pink color with a light blue roof. The tall building I imagined to be apartments with three rows of windows across.

The painting is a third panel of three, the other two showing the 180 degree view (360 total) of Rome.

The evening we went up to get there, the bus was packed and we were standing like sausages. That was the time the police happened to get on the bus and Lizzy one of the students with us got fined and removed from the bus because she forgot her pass. It was quite dramatic b/c she somewhat argued with the police but didn’t speak Italian. In the end it was all fine (no pun intended). We were rewarded with this gorgeous view and the colors of Rome and its gorgeous lighting. You got to the top and it was so beautiful you were stunned into silence.

I painted this in Rome in 2021. I painted and drew in July that year during the pandemic. This is panel three of three which started at dusk and continued until dark. I often would start in watercolors before moving to acrylic.
