The big jump in 2022-2023 school year is in large part due to the mass infection of ALL our children with COVID, followed by frequent reinfection. Now, their immune systems are screwed and significant & growing % have Long COVID.

AI is profoundly unpopular. A recent NBC News poll found that among 18-34 year-olds, AI's net favorability rating is -44. *Negative 44*. Those are basically serial killer numbers. It's not much better among women 18-49. (Men over 50 and upper class are the only ones who like AI, and just barely.)
Interesting-sounding PhD position in Bern: architectural history of the Swiss women's movement 1870-1930.
Not to mention ever-rising international student fees!
STUDY visas. STUDY visas! As a prior recipient of one of these, let me tell you these are already HIGHLY limited & very strict in terms of what you are and aren’t allowed to do / access while in the UK. Plus you pay to apply, and if you get it you pay a large NHS surcharge. Who is exploiting whom?
Strong recommendation to teaching faculty to just say no to this stuff, even if you are AI curious/enthusiastic. This is meant to reduce faculty autonomy and capture human labor with automation. You're selling out your future self and the profession as a whole. www.insidehighered.com/news/tech-in...

Over 400 @unitetheunion.bsky.social members at the University of Strathclyde (including cleaners and security guards) are starting 7 days of strike action today over job cuts.
The university says it has to save money. Last year the boss of the university was paid £428,000
the times demand it
We will take strike action next week unless the University rules out compulsory redundancies.
The executives we have lost confidence in continue to forecast the need for another £20m of savings. All from staff losses.
We’ve already lost over 600 colleagues. When will the job cuts end?

I know I’ve got some Labour local gov’t types following me, so I want to say this clearly so that you can share it internally as appropriate: I will never again vote Labour while these policies, or Wes Streeting, are in place. I will not vote Labour at any level because of this.
