In Virginia, they passed redistricting in 2 consecutive sessions of the legislature, it was signed by the Governor & approved by voters. In Texas, they took orders from Trump, passed it in the legislature & voters had no say. And Republicans think Virginia is the problem.
I've visited Finland, and half-wondered whether the stuff they served in restaurants was just to secretly make fun of the tourists.
My mom loved this stuff, and fortunately (?) we lived in town with a German-Russian heritage that sold it in every corner store. It was kind of like the contraband in the refrigerator that nobody wanted.
Nightmare fuel.
Thanks so much! I've tried several squirrel-proof feeders but those little guys are so adapatable ... they're very impressive.
I'm loving the different feeders you have, including the caged one(s). Do you have a favorite? I'm looking to improve my squirrel-proofed-ness...

Self-unraveling yarn.
A completely unmistakable observation, yet it never seems to enter anyone's thinking (that I can tell).
A sunstar shows though between dark tree trunks with long shadows and strips of light on a floor of bluebells. Green leaves visible above.
Back in my favourite woodland this morning. Bluebells about peak now and lots of lovely new green leaves.

Ossoff: "How does American politics really work? It's coin operated. Money goes in, favors come out. It's been running on secret money, corporate money, billionaire money ... all of this gave rise to a depraved president who exploits this rot to empower and enrich himself"
This dog rescue had a slumber party night where volunteers got to sleep with a dog up for adoption!
This is the kind of place I’d donate my time and money to.

An American Dipper in the river with water flowing over top. The stream is clear and smooth with feather detail visible through the water.

It's an aberration! My family has always been intensely religious, also Republican, and it's never been an issue. Mutual respect was expected. But these politics have encouraged division, intolerance, and retribution above all other impulses. How could we experience this, then want to do it again?
A Great Blue Heron takes flight. It's wings are concave as it is lifting into flight.
I saw a nice Great Blue Heron yesterday. I kept clicking as he departed and got a shot where the wings are perfectly concave. Fun, fun click to get!

I couldn't do it. It's bad enough navigating immediate family who are evangelical MAGA. It really colors how I think about them, and it's hard to keep it from showing. I see them as little as possible, and this is yet another consequence that makes me hate this whole timeline.
Excited to attend the ribbon-cutting for the next segment of California’s solar canal initiative later this month in Hickman. Imagine generating solar power over 4,000 miles or so canals across the state. A lot of Sierra and Colorado River water to save via avoided evaporation.

Also hard to find in retail, and sadly also sterile. But you can multiply by cuttings, slowly!

They are naturalized in my neighbor's woods, but I do not have a single one. So I mail-ordered some (including a double!) and hope to have some established in my yard soon! They're arriving tomorrow. Then, lots of waiting ... Thanks for the photos!
Bryan's incredible photography was my go-to cover art for so many issues of Silent Sports magazine when I was editor there. The more people who see his astonishing Boundary Waters work will inspire more people to want to protect this unique natural and recreational resource.
