After #Nettlebed there was a nice long drop down off the #Chilterns towards #Wallingford. Briefly stopped at the WW2 bomber crash memorial above #Hailey, then #Ipsden, #NorthStoke, #Wallingford and home.
A grand day out Gromit.

Did a nice off-road circuit to (almost) #Henley today. First hour spent along/through fields to Britwell, then up in to the #Chilterns.
Climbed through the woods parallel to #Britwell Hill which was magic. Most trails were just right - pretty dry but not over-grown with brambles.

Love a mossy bank. This one in the #Chilterns. #ukwildlife

A photo, mostly of sky. A number of different types of cloud are visible, some dark, some white. The blue sky is darker towards the top of the image. In the foreground is a band of dark fields and trees. The moon is visible near top-centre.
Today felt a bit brighter.
A day of sunshine and showers with varied and fast-moving #clouds. The moon put in an appearance too for this #scape.

Chalk Vespers 1847 Mary Anning, Palaeontology pioneer, Vanishes from the Upper World. Her Spirit, with Cephalopod agility, Enters the chalk-pored Dorset Downs near Lyme, Harrowing the holloways of The Great Ridgeway, as it glances Stonehenge and Wayland Smithy waymarks. Crests the Chilterns at Ivinghoe Beacon, Grooving the ancient droves of Icknield Way, until it lopes into an Eleventh-hour chicane at Knettishall Heath. From where, Drawn by the timber-circled Seahenge lodestone, and Shadowing the progress of Penitents along Peddars Way, it Emerges at Holme. Following the setting sun to The Wash, Mary Anning’s spirit Nests itself in the dreams of one Henry L'Estrange Styleman Le Strange Who, sensing a gathering Apocalypse - Uncovering, Unfolding - Seeks to eclipse his north-winded Fishing village with a West-facing wise folly. Gothic-revival reverie bodied forth in Honeystone-Town, Hunstanton, Quarried and fashioned from the very Carrstone that edges out Albion in the Layer-Cake Cliffs, Where Solstice-sun illumination of Ancient barrows has since Become a nightly Vespers: Stratified slice of Earth’s Deep-Time testimonies Bathed in an Evening light that Sanctifies seventy-seven Million years of the Cretaceous. Man’s two-millennia Tenure as Crown of Creation: Guttering lantern glow that Cuts a Faltering path through the Gloaming. © Jan Peters/Solivagant Wisdom, 2025
Map of the Great Chalk Way network of long-distance paths, starting at Lyme Regis, Dorset in southwest England, and ending at Holme-next-the-Sea in Norfolk, East Anglia. Mary Anning's ghost/spirit follows this route in the poem.

Should rural communities rely more on buses instead of cars?
The 41 connects villages, rail, Heathrow & Gatwick.
Would YOU use it more if services expanded? Why or why not?
Let’s debate 👇

Today’s mini adventure: train to #Twyford then cycle back to #Didcot via #Henley and the #Chilterns. Not much ☀️, too much 💧 but enjoyable nonetheless.
66k and 660m of climbing. Old Bix Road above Henley was a nice steep climb: my new “granddad gears” chainring worked really well 😀

A view of a graveyard with mostly stone crosses, but with a solid tombstone to the right. The ground is covered with yellow flowers in the foreground, and shite flowers in the background.
Happy #Imbolc to those who celebrate!
We've reached the halfway point between the Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. Here, a profusion of snowdrops and aconites at St Botolph's Churchyard in Swyncombe, in the #Chilterns, UK.

A map, plotting a cycle ride, starting and finishing in Didcot in Oxfordshire (UK).
A bicycle tool bottle. It looks tatty, but is dry and almost dirt-free, despite 4hrs on rough roads in December.
A happy chappie(!), in winter cycling attire, standing beside a quiet country road.
Managed a 50 mile/80k loop through the #Chilterns today. It was pretty cold - around 4 dec C - but the roads were bone dry. When I got home my tool bottle, which is carried under the down tube (and no mudguards) was dry and pretty clean. Not normal for a December ride but no complaints!

Wild garlic flowers backlit by the setting sun. It's taken from ground level and you can see the petals highlighted by the sun.
A large area of white wild garlic flowers and lots of greenery. It's in a little dip in a woodland with trees with bright green new leaves around. Dappled sunlight is coming through.
The setting sun comes through gaps in the trees above a carpet of wild garlic flowers, some looking orange where the sun hits them.
More wild garlic flowers backlit by the setting sun. There is some reflection on the leaves too, which look orange.
I barely took the camera out in May - sunrises are just too early! But I discovered a lovely woodland nearby with wild garlic, which resulted in many jars of homemade pesto (by hubby) - great way to meet the neighbours, offering out homemade food!

A snow-dusted mountain top under blue/grey cloud with a patch of sunlight on the autumnal slopes below.
A long exposure shot of a dawn morning with a metal viking ship sculpture on a platform by a fjord.
A mountain with pointy finger-like peaks is partly covered in low cloud and fog, and a bright red rescue helicopter is seen hovering nearby (about to do a successful rescue of two climbers!).
Morning sunlight filters through tall mostly-bare trees with some early green beech leaves on a hanging branch. The forest floor is covered with beautiful pink/purple bluebells.
