You may not consider the Gil Gerard BUCK ROGERS that successful, but it updated Buck from 1929 to 1979.
The 1975 WONDER WOMAN jumped from 1942 to 1976 and the audience followed. It's fine. You only have to be willing to do it.

It's not all that difficult to update a character like Bond. Look at the many successful Sherlock Holmes updates (SHERLOCK, ELEMENTARY, WATSON).
I'm coming around on the period idea. At least then no one would say Bond's sexism and bigotry were woefully behind the times.
GOLDENEYE, OTOH, successfully brought Bond into the 1990s. That kind of move is needed now.
Brosnan's run may have been meh, but the four movies were distinct. Craig's five mush together.
It goes back to script issues. Brosnan was a fresh Bond, but after GOLDENEYE, he didn't get great stuff to do.
I think the best way forward is to get a good writer who reimagines Bond as a present-day spy. Steven Knight may be doing this. From there, more movies can be made using the present-day template.
CASINO ROYALE made me think Craig's run would be this, but it ended up a retelling of the Blofeld saga.
I don't think the #JamesBond movie franchise will return to its greatest frequency. Through no fault of Amazon's, there's virtually no source material left. You can't expect to make a movie every 2-3 years w/o scripts. EON hid this by making Craig's 5-movie run one long story.
A group of turkey vultures wade in a pool atop Taughannock Falls, the longes single-drop waterfall east of the Mississippi. ©John Kaprielian Brief Respite Turkey vultures black with glistening fleshy heads frolic in the pool at the top of the cascading waterfall playing like children in a puddle. It feels odd, like the shock of seeing your teacher in the market for the first time: out of place, out of character, disorienting. The birds splash and wade, wash the rot off their feathers, find solace with others of their kind forgetting for a time their morbid but vital role. Falling water resounds against stony gorge walls as one by one they spread their wings, drop off the cliff and soar, seeking those who have already met their fate.
Today's alt #BirdOfTheDay theme is #WhatTheFlock but I was tempted to use this for #WadingBirds! Here is a flock of turkey vultures cooling off in a pool at the top of Taughannock Falls in central NY. #Birds #Birdwatching

I root for the Knicks, but the Celtics are still better, and the Hawks always give the Knicks trouble. 🏀🤞
#Conversation is usually uninteresting. When recorded, it's uninteresting and fraught w/ anxiety.
The best conversations are in #Fiction.
We already have tape/digital recorders, thank you.

Things can feel pretty hopeless out there sometimes, but I need you to know that, yeah, even though we lose some fights, we also WIN a lot of fights. Here's some news from PEN American about 3 book ban bills we defeated IN FLORIDA.
- The Rockford Files
- Spenser: For Hire
- Lois & Clark
I wouldn't want to erase my knowledge of a film to watch it again as if for the first time.

A graphic that reads: “In the first episode of Star Trek Deep Space Nine, we saw a black man gain a powerful command position, respect the hell out of a religion he didn’t understand, respect three different races he didn’t understand, accept his friend’s gender change, and tell his son he loves him.”
Star Trek; it be like that. #LLAP
Rest in peace, Rif Hutton, whom I remember fondly from a KFC campaign and as Harm's frequent legal adversary Alan Mattoni on JAG.
To have NCIS: NY, ORIGINS' and SYDNEY's episode orders were reduced. I like SYDNEY at the moment. ORIGINS still feels like unnecessary fan service, the ENTERPRISE of NCISes.
I like 4/20 not for the herb, but because it's Don Mattingly's birthday.
While you check out the latest issue, know that Defenestration is once again open to short story and poetry submissions. Find all the details here: bit.ly/105Enuu
Sebastian Faulks's James Bond novel stands out to me not for its characterization or plot, but b/c it was credited to Faulks "writing as Ian Fleming."
No other Bond continuation novel is credited as such, an odd footnote.
Sebastian Faulks, who wrote James Bond continuation novel Devil May Care, was born in Berkshire on 20th April 1953. #JamesBond #dates #OTD

I'm shopping for formal shoes. I'd like a pair I can wear comfortably, but from my reading, it seems ppl are meant to be somewhat uncomfortable in formal shoes. And I suppose ppl aren't meant to spend long hours in formal shoes.

It's always the right time for National Library Week, but this year feels especially timely. Thanks to all the librarians who made me a reader and a writer!
You're asking me to pick one comfort movie? I have many. Today I feel like saying RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. Go back before anyone had thoughts of a franchise. It's just one great ride w/ no letups.
