For more about this book, here's an interview with the author in @highcountrynews.org. I love the parting question: what does it mean to embrace the ephemeral? #lakes #ecology #womeninstem www.hcn.org/issues/58-3/...

This exactly. Probably a half dozen times in the past year, when someone learns I’m a journalist, they’ve said, “Oh! Do you use a lot of AI to help you write?” Each time I looked at them w bafflement & incredulity & replied, “Never. AI can’t come close to what I do.” And it’s true—it really can’t.
A few people have replied to my Artemis posts with links to Gil Scott-Heron's "Whitey on the Moon." Here's a story from Space.com about Artemis II pilot Victor Glover, currently en route to fly around the Moon, and his connection to that piece. www.space.com/space-explor...
every one of these guys would be the hugest loser you've ever met if there wasn't a massive makework program for men willing to act on their most sadistic impulses in this country
Just a 5.0 I think. Far enough from me that nothing fell over, even. A good reminder to go stick important stuff down though, and refresh our earthquake kit

Ooh, earthquake app told me about this one before I felt it! Neat!

This one is a no brainer for me

A fish with trans flag colors saying trans rights and text below that says you bet your wrasse
Happy trans day of visibility, here is a wrasse design I made awhile ago because all wrasses change sexes as they age.

Journalists produce reliable information like bees produce honey - and our current age of AI is smashing the hive, killing the bees, and setting us up for total information collapse in the near future.
Great piece from @mattdpearce.com :
The staff would join the Biology Department, but would replace the biologists there, and start educating and graduating virologists instead of biologists. These virologists would enter the other departments and repeat the process.
Nobody believes this is addictive.
With that settled, I'm off to refresh my notifications page repeatedly to see how much people agree with me.
Like, not only does it not remotely match anything we know about how and why the authors wrote what they did, it requires believing that this extremely salient point of an extremely salient document went entirely unnoticed by actual experts for decades, only to be unearthed by total gadflies
I’m a white female college grad and I think that I am as legitimately and importantly American as a white male who flunked out of trade school and listens to podcasts at the gym.
(@whysharksmatter.bsky.social hi here’s a shark for your viewing pleasure)
Ooh tbh I kind of love a tedious colorwork pattern, especially one that’s easy to memorize like this. A whole whale shark sweater could be so awesome

It’s FINISHED! I ended up reworking two shark knitting patterns plus learning three new kinds of decreases/increases because I wanted my shark’s head to be symmetrical, but I got there eventually. I love her.

Thanks! I spent WAY too long figuring out how to make it exactly symmetrical and I don’t think it *really* mattered, but it mattered to me!
THANK U CHILD

One day after I shower it looks greasy and flat though so like
How is it still wet, and also looks unwashed
I have the world’s straightest hair and it still stays wet for days because if it’s not braided or ponytailed or something it flies around and gets in everything, and if it’s tied up it stays wet. It is easy to detangle though!
Listen I don’t need more t-shirts but I do need to show up to my next little old lady plant event in this specific tshirt
(They’ll love it)

The only reason I’m ever awake these days anywhere near when Wendy posts these is because my daughter has woken me up, wailing for food (she hasn’t eaten in a whole three entire hours and that is deeply unacceptable). So these haunted little eyes really speak to me at the moment
You’re extremely correct
Who else out here making #fanart
Love this but also my David has a literal chest of drawers for his cable hoard and they are very neatly organized. He can always find them, recently he needed (and immediately located) a USB-B to USB-A connector. Yes we are a very normal household why do you ask
