Standing on the edge of a viewing point looking down on a turquoise colored glacial lake as the first rays of the sun hit the rocky mountain peaks that border the lake. The sky is blue with a few white clouds.

A poster showing a cat reading a book and sipping some coffee. A bit anthropomorphic but we’ll let it slide.
Words above the cat read - Let me check my GIVE A SHITOMETER

Words at the bottoms read - NOPE, NOTHING.

i used to be good at remembering things

with all these warm bodies
moving in and out of my room
why does it feel empty

thoughts that used to give
me comfort
are foreign

not even the words
on the page
are familiar

someone's been inside
my head
rearranging things

there's a new sky window
but the light
that's supposed to help me
see things more clearly

only leaves me
feeling
exposed

The tiny sink in a hospital room

I've forgotten how many times
I banged my hip
on that sink in our
cloistered, claustrophobic room.

I've forgotten how many times
I washed my hands,
rinsed out cups,
wet the wipes
to wash your face clean.

I washed my hair in it
twice,
my bent back stiff from the chair,
water slopping over the sides,
dripping noiselessly
onto the rubber floor.

And once it stopped me
from falling
when there was nothing else left
to hold on to.

I composed a beautiful letter to you in the sleepless nightmare hours of the night, and it has all gone: I just miss you, in a quite simple desperate human way.

Someone said to me, "I'm sorry but I got your book from a library." Nobody should ever apologise for that. You read my book! That's brilliant! I grew up hanging out in libraries and the idea of a world without them fills me with dread. Without libraries, authors, like readers, will only suffer.

This is a poem by Mary Oliver entitle "Don't Hesitate" in which she cautions people against resisting joy for fear of its loss, or for fear that something terrible is happening or is about to happen.

If you suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy, don't hesitate. Give in to it. There are plenty of lives and whole towns destroyed or about to be. We are not wise, and not very often kind. And much can never be redeemed. Still, life has some possibility left. Perhaps this is its way of fighting back, that sometimes something happens better than all the riches or power in the world. It could be anything, but very likely you notice it in the instant when love begins. Anyway, that's often the case. Anyway, whatever it is, don't be afraid of its plenty. Joy is not made to be a crumb.

I confess that, at times, I resist joy for fear of its loss, or because something bad is happening or is about to happen. "Don't be afraid of its plenty" calls me in the opposite direction. I'm grateful.

The largest and sharpest image ever taken of the Andromeda galaxy — otherwise known as M31. It is the biggest Hubble image ever released and shows over 100 million stars, thousands of star clusters in a section of the galaxy’s disc stretching across over 40 000 light-years.
