Once upon a time I just admired nudis and sea slugs.

But it was not enough. Now apparently I'm creating an R package to celebrate their colour palettes? 😅

First up, my Sydney fave, Hypselodoris bennetti.

For a brief break from the world, please enjoy a tale of two slugs.

Nudibranch Jorunna pantherina (I think!) and not-nudibranch Elysia coodgeensis in a tidepool, about 1cm and 5mm long respectively. And with a few bonus microscopic epifauna video-bombing.

Looks like a Trevally! They love using bigger fish/people as cover.

I get that. I sell aquarium plants online sometimes and basically all anyone sees is my arm 😅

If you're cheap like me you can see if anyone nearby is tearing down a tank and buy their wood. I have a bunch of secondhand wood from MarketPlace and it didn't turn my water yellow. I just boiled it well first to kill anything on it.

Technically yes, but I would not guarantee that if you get it online it is actually treated. At your LFS you can ask which bits have been around the longest. If one has had its plant die you can probably get it way cheaper.

I got paid, so I've just donated another $50 to @chelseaherps.bsky.social. She deserves to finish her Masters, she's worked SO HARD and she's SO CLOSE. Just over $1k to go 🧪 feed!!

Many people are going to feel the need to defend trans care for adults using the libraries of published evidence supporting its safety and efficacy--which is fine, but the actual standard to uphold is "it's my body and I fucking said so"

Title: The “problem” of women of colour in the workplace, from www.coco-net.org

The image shows a series of steps where a woman of colour enters of workplace, leadership initially welcomes her, and then tokenizes her. The woman of color points out the issues, and tried to work within existing structures and policies. The response is repetitive injury and microaggressions, denial of racism, and an organizational response of ignoring and blaming. The responsibility of fixing the problem is placed on the woman of colour, POC are pitted against each other, targeted, and attacked. The women of color experienced retaliation as the problem is blamed on her, and the organization labels the conflict as a “communication problem” and claims age is unqualified or not a good fit. The woman of colour then exits the organization.

It’s amazing how evergreen this is. The pattern is followed like clockwork.

I think I'll avoid that with this tomato, it's way too big 🤣

This bed is small, but it is happy and healthy! When we moved in it was just a massive cordyline and about 50 lbs of spider plant, it looks much better now!

I only have 5 seed packs right now so I don't need to organise yet, but I'm sure I will soon! I'm loving having a little bit of real garden for the first time.

2 years ago 2 0 1 0

Oh and thank you very very much! This is my first year with a veggie garden that isn't in a tiny window box so I'm leaning A LOT

2 years ago 2 0 2 0

Perfect, I'll sow both and see who likes it in the shade. They can go where I had herbs that got totally shaded out.

2 years ago 1 0 0 0

Just googled and looks like kale is a brassica, I'll dig it out of my seed box!

2 years ago 2 0 2 0

Without going out and buying anything new I have kale, Bok Choy, and lettuce. The lettuce will definitely just melt in the 95 degree days, would either of the others help?

Right now I can't reach it 😅 but that's a good idea.

2 years ago 1 0 0 0

I bought it from the hardware store as a tiny plant, the variety is "Mortgage Lifter". I just bought it for the name, this is my first time having a big enough garden spot with enough light to keep a tomato happy, so to be fair I'm mostly happy it didn't die 😅

2 years ago 1 0 0 0

Hrm, can't really take nitrogen out, but I can see if my hardware store has a fertilizer with more of the other nutrients and give it some. Thank you both! It's on worm castings and some tomato fertilizer to stop blossom end rot, I'll avoid this section of the garden with the next round of castings.

A small cuttlefish against a dark backdrop of rocky reef. The cuttle is side on, hovering in shallow water. Small, cute, and perfect. Mottled light brown pattern. Beneath its eye (and trademark W-shaped pupil) is a colourful line of yellow and orange, a feature that helps ID this as a reaper cuttle.

I post a lot of nudis and crabs, but my favourites will always be cephalopods. Was lucky enough to hang out with this little lump of wonderfulness at the weekend, a small and perfect reaper cuttle 🥲

A built in concrete planter in a small apartment yard. 3/4 of the planter is a massive tomato plant that is just poking over the top of a wall that's well over 2m (~6.5) feet tall. The tomato is being supported by a series of homemade bamboo scaffolds and looks a bit like it could have elves living in it. There are some pretty multicoloured flowers being completely overshadowed by the massive monster tomato tree.

The same tomato with me, a chubby blonde woman, standing under it. I'm reaching over my head and holding a branch. I look extremely pleased with myself for growing this ridiculous thing.

I bought this tomato as a seedling 🌱 in October and now it's a monster 😅 it still hasn't produced any ripe tomatoes, it just keeps growing!!! Any hints on how to convince it to stop taking over the garden and give me some tasty snacks?
