A huge amount is unintentional in many places. Apart from deterring crop foraging not much work has been done to mitigate the other kinds of unintentional feeding. Deliberate unregulated feeding which seems to be very common particularly when tourism is involved is an increasing concern.
New on our website - Unregulated Human Provisioning of Primates: Advice for Conservation Practitioners. We're looking for volunteer translators particularly for habitat country languages to make this document as inclusive as possible. human-primate-interactions.org/wp-content/u...

In Indonesia’s Mentawai Islands, rich with macaques, gibbons & hornbills, Indigenous youth continue practicing Arat Sabulungan — a belief that every part of nature holds spirits. Rituals before cutting trees or fishing remain a way to keep balance.

Citizen-science goes awry, exaggerating monkey numbers.
Proposals for deterring them include "disguising dogs as leopards, having people dress as large langurs and applying leopard feces to fruit trees." #primates
[COMMENTARY]
A new op-ed explains how language shapes the way we view wildlife and their conservation, as even subtle word choices can drive perceptions of species or situations.

rdcu.be/etL5R A really interesting, nuanced take on indigenous names for the #Tapanuli #orangutan: when does it make sense to use them, and when might more 'neutral' terms be better for their #conservation? h/t @peopleprimate.bsky.social

Here's a little write-up (and some super cute monkey videos) on the work of our fantastic PhD researcher, Megan:
A Mongabay investigation has uncovered exclusive details about the clandestine market for gorilla and chimpanzee body parts in northeastern Nigeria, revealing that the trade works in a larger area than previously believed and kills more critically endangered gorillas than previously acknowledged. 🦍
