I recommend encouraging them elsewhere. Make somewhere else more inviting. This may require you to throw birdseed on someone else's balcony. Perhaps a paintball gun re-designed to shoot bird food instead.

Cliché or not, I'm pretty sure most of my characters would end up driving a Subaru. Practical/dependable, can haul a lot of things (musical instruments, plants, books, dogs), and none of my characters would go for flashy.

Same. I started thinking about descriptions as dialogue between a blind character and a companion describing the situation/landscape/etc... for them. It works sometimes and helps me focus on the things that are most important, not the useless details.
Both! WIP 1 I jumped around. I focussed on Julie and then on Izzy and then on both of them together. WIP 2 I wrote in order, except for the epilogue which I wrote when I was able to handle it. WIP 3 has been mostly in order, but I've jumped a bit as necessary to keep 7 MCs and their plots straight.
Ending things. Once I start writing it's a race to about the last 3-5 chapters. Then I write slowly, delaying, because I don't want to stop writing/don't like saying goodbye. I'm getting there now with WIP 3.
Otherwise, highly emotional scenes can be a challenge that I put off.

I think based on my answers to question 2, that I happen to draw on a sense of home quite often, but it's not always explicit. It's often presented in ways the characters interact with space and place.

I try to capture the immigrant experience with Liv in WIP 3. She struggles with a sense of belonging in both her new and old home because both are in conflict with different parts of her identity. She feels like only parts of her fit in either place, but neither place accepts her 100%
