Below you'll find a link to read the full version of my latest Words and Wildlife Newsletter. In it, I talk about losing and finding my muse during the last five, incredibly stressful months. And of course, there's lots of wildlife photos. To subscribe, go to my website, the link is in my bio.
I haven't posted in quite awhile. Life threw three health related curveballs at my family within one months time. I want to be creative. I need to be creative. But when I try, no words will come. So, instead, I'm falling into nature and collecting pics of interesting things I see.
I could watch them all day!
I am standing in my window this morning, hoping for a repeat!

My cardinals are still courting ❤️
I caught these pics over morning coffee just as the sun was peeking over the pine trees. Such a cute way to start my day.

Our cardinals are courting! I can't wait until they bring their little ones to the backyard after fledging.

It's been awhile since I posted . . . life has taken a turn. But you know what makes everything better?
Hummingbirds. Our #hummingbirds are back and pairing up.

Two pink Roseate Spoonbills with their beaks in the water, foraging.

A pink, wading, Roseate Spoonbill seems to smile as it opens its beak
In this reflection photo, a pink colored Roseate Spoonbill wades in the water while foraging for fish or insects
Did you know?
Roseate Spoonbills have a interesting way of feeding. They sweep their bills left and right and when they touch something that's edible, they close their bills quickly. They're foraging for fish or insects.

Watch this beautiful snowy egret enter stage left and photo bomb my frame as I photograph a couple of preening spoonbills!
I'm still going through #Sanibel birding pics in between editing a MG novel. More to come!

A pink Roseate Spoonbill is wading in a marsh. Its spoon-shaped beak makes it look as if it is smiling.

Spoonbills and Woodstorks really look as if they should be in a fantasy novel, don't you think? They are so interesting to look at!

The foraging spoonbill spreads its wings and runs away from the biter
When I first got into photography, it was to capture wildlife behavior like this!
What I thought I captured was a pretty series of a spoonbill landing and beginning to forage. Upon editing and zooming in - it turned out to be something quite different!

Awwww! I'm glad you liked them!

I'm stuck on the Fort Meyers tarmac trying to get home after our 40th anniversary vacation. Might as well post some Sanibel Island wildlife photos!
I was in photographer's heaven and have so many photos to go through that I'll be reliving this trip for a long time.

Whoops! I think this bluebird is a bit miffed at me!
Two pair of bluebirds remain from a flock of 12 that showed up 3 weeks ago. I'm hoping they stay - I have two bluebird boxes set up, but I know my yard isn't the perfect open habitat they prefer. Still, fingers crossed!
#wildlifephotography
I thought so too! But I just found out it's misinformation. They eat some, but not the 5,000 per week originally thought.

An opossum sits outside its den in a shed. It has a white pointy face, pink nose, long rat-like tail, black eyes and salt and pepper colored fur.
How cute is that face? ❤
More opossum fun facts - their tail can grasp things like sticks or leaves, and it helps with balance when climbing. They also rarely get rabies.
More pics and facts in the post before this one.

I think they're adorable! After I saw it, I wondered what they ate too. They eat a lot of things, fruit, mice, eggs, nuts - but they will eat bird seed (I have feeders), pet food, and garbage too. Here's another cute pic, I'm still editing photos!

When temps turned 40 degrees in Maine, and the sun shone down warmly, a nose appeared in the opening under our shed. I think it had been hibernating under our shed, and came out to hydrate.
I hope it stays nearby!

I had a list of authorly to-do's ready to go in case my school had a snow day today. #1 on the list was to prep for next week's school visit here in Maine.
But over my first cup of coffee this beautiful fox stepped from the woods. The to-do list can wait.

I love when they visit my backyard!
I took so many photos today, it'll take hours to go through them all. But it was worth it.

This is so cool!
I'm trying so hard to sit and write my February Newsletter, but I can see my to-do list isn't going to get done on this snow day! There is soooo much activity at the feeders!

Thank you, Sarah! I'm so glad to connect here as well!
