Guys!!!
Starve your lawn, save your trees. Those are the rules.
A moody, black and white photograph looking down at a set of railroad tracks that curve into the distance and disappear into dense fog. The image is uniquely framed by the heavily blurred, dark, diamond-shaped wire of a chain-link fence in the extreme foreground. To the left of the tracks are long, organized stacks of dark railroad ties, and to the right is a mix of trees, including evergreens and a few showing pale blossoms. A tilt-shift effect blurs the bottom and the distant misty background, keeping the central stretch of the tracks in sharp focus.
A couple more shots from the epic fog last week off Lake Michigan.
I saw a headline warning that insects and bugs are coming back earlier this year, and it actually made me happy. 🐝
Spring in Chicago area! 40s today, 70s expected tomorrow. Confusing, often bewildering, but the flowering trees/bushes bring joy 2 the heart re rebirth & spark hope 4 the future!

My photo of the Patterson-McCormick Mansion, located at the NW corner of Burton & Astor in Chicago’s Gold Coast, with a blue sky and neighboring high-rises in the background. A woman walks in front of the four-story building. It is a Neoclassical design w/Roman brick & terra cotta trim created by Stanford White of the firm McKim, Mead & White in 1893. The structure was threatened with demolition in the 1970s, but it survived and is now subdivided into nine condos.

From my noonday walk earlier today. Spring is springing, thanks to all the rain. The trees are blooming and budding. The sky—today anyway—was blueing.
Pink and yellow magnolia blossoms on the ends of slender branches under a blue and white sky.
This is the last magnolia of the season and my favorite. The tree was so slender and had a heavily damaged trunk but it was also very alive and tossing beautiful big blossoms into the sky.
Color photo of a midcentury single family home in tan brick with a complex roof. Three sections in general L shape: (1) main section on left, 1.5 stories, with the slightest gabled roof, feat. a brown and blue fascia, (2) middle section with recessed entrance, skillion roof starting below eave of left section; (3) garage, coming way up toward the street, roof from center jutting forward and continuing down. Garage door has cute painting of a yellow and black butterfly.

Beach day! 🥰
Still there.

A brick building, part of a church / parish / convent complex, offers a mix of beautiful stained glass windows whose vivid verdant hues contrast with a dark, foreboding overcast sky above.

A garage door is painted with the Chicago city flag (blue and white stripes, with four six-pointed red stars) and cartoon characters saying "Hello" in various languages. Next to the garage, the gate of a driveway has three signs on it. One says "Hands Off Chicago." Another says: "ICE OUT! Fuera ICE!" And the third has a red "X" over a yellow crown.

Haven’t seen cormorants here in large quantities since the city wiped out all the trees along the river. I think the construction is screwing with them.

I generally prefer getting books from @chipublib.bsky.social but for this #PlantNerd special from @extension.illinois.edu, I'll make an exception! pubsplus.illinois.edu/collections/...
