#RCOG2025 has started! In her presidential address, Professor Ranee Thakar highlights the work we have been doing with #RCOG and many others including @fsrh.org @bpas.bsky.social and @msichoicesuk.bsky.social to decriminalise women.
We’re proud to see our joint work showcased in this address!
The @appgsrh.bsky.social have urged the NPCC to withdraw new police guidance on pregnancy loss, which they say risks fuelling criminalisation around reproductive health.
The letter was supported by 45+ MPs & Peers and was sent ahead of the vote to decriminalise abortion.

We were at Westminster yesterday with @bpas.bsky.social, @cosmopolitan.co.uk, @fsrh.org & RCOG to speak to MPs about amendment NC1, which would stop the criminalisation of women ending their own pregnancies.
It’s due to be voted on today 💪 We’ll bring you the result as soon as we have it.
A proposed amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill would require an in-person consultation prior to accessing an at-home abortion, pushing care out of reach for too many.
We urge MPs to reject it and protect access to safe abortion care.

An increasing number of women are being prosecuted for ending their own pregnancy
We stand with RCOG in expressing concern over the Police Chief's guidance on child death investigations.
This guidance leaves women vulnerable to investigation after pregnancy loss & at risk of criminalisation for using abortion medication. #DecriminaliseAbortion

NHS England to roll out world-first vaccine programme to prevent gonorrhoea. Professor Matt Phillips, BASHH President, commented: This is excellent news and a landmark moment for sexual health in England. A new gonorrhoea vaccination programme — alongside continued rollout of mpox vaccination — forms a vital part of our efforts to address the significant inequalities we are seeing in sexual health outcomes. Gonorrhoea diagnoses are at their highest since records began and this has the potential to help us to turn that around. To make the most of this opportunity, we must now work together to ensure these programmes form part of a wider, joined-up response to improving sexual health and wellbeing in the UK. BASHH, alongside partners, continue to call for a strategy for embedding equitable, accessible, and expert sexual healthcare for all those who need it — now and into the future.”
🚨 Landmark gonorrhoea vaccination programme announced in England
BASHH warmly welcomes the excellent news that NHS England will roll out the world’s first routine gonorrhoea vaccination programme.
