14th Ekiden for the HaploTeam already - I can't believe it. But first since we moved to @igbmc.bsky.social!
The competition between the Haplo and Diplo subteams was tough but as always, great fun and team spirit!

#Yeast #Genetics Meeting 2026 is in June - Abstract deadline is TODAY! Submit your abstract, attend the meeting this summer in Pacific Grove, CA at #Asilomar Conference Grounds, a 107-acre protected coastal state park located on the Monterey Peninsula. #Yeast26 #YGM2026 genetics-gsa.org/yeast-2026/
And @groupe-sncf.com to this one 🤣
We have started a project trying to predic the interactions/structures of all yeast protein pairs using an AlphaFold pooling approach. We are making the current dataset open and we welcome collaborations.

We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of David Botstein, a towering figure in modern #genetics and a foundational force behind SGD.

Sad to learn that David Botstein has passed away. Few people truly shape how you think and do science, and David was definitely one of them. I had a fun and influential time at Princeton with the Botstein, Kruglyak and co gangs. It shaped the way I do science.

Our new preprint w/ @balintnemeth.bsky.social and colleagues compares 13 mead #yeast strains for their phenotype, genome, and presents data on metabolites in experimental mead fermentations.
Finally…
New Perspective!🔥It's fascinating how scientists from different fields but interested in the same question [e.g. genotype-phenoytpe relationship] can have such different perspectives. Here we put in our 2 cents wrt genetic effects being context-dependent, and pheno variation being mostly polygenic

With @litinice.bsky.social, we built a haploid resource from 33 wild Taiwanese Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains — including some of the most genetically divergent Asian lineages — to bring natural yeast diversity into a genetically tractable framework. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Registration is open for the inaugural GRC conference in the Function of Evolving Systems. Aug 9-14, 2026, Waterville Valley. Truly stellar speaker lineup. Student/postdoc fellowships are available! Please come join us! www.grc.org/function-of-... @joybergelson.bsky.social

Excited to announce our latest publication in reporting evidence for three (3!) new whole genome duplications (WGDs) in yeasts. Scientists have often wondered why WGD is so rare in fungi, it turns out we may just not have been looking hard enough! 🧪 🍄 🧬

✨ Latest exciting story of the group in @nature.com. Here, we go beyond SNPs and built a species-wide atlas of genetic variants in yeast. With >1,000 near T2T genomes, we show how large genomic variations affect trait diversity.
