That’s me holding a bundle of freshly picked rhubarb in the allotment kitchen garden, looking quite pleased with myself. These are the regular stems from the beds rather than the forced ones from earlier - deeper red, broader, and a bit more robust in appearance. Behind me, the kitchen garden is coming back to life, with worked soil and early growth. A decent haul for one picking, and enough for a rhubarb crumble later.

A freshly baked sourdough loaf is cut cleanly in half and held up in two hands, the cut sides facing the camera. The crust is a deep golden brown with blistering and a light dusting of flour, suggesting strong oven spring. The interior shows an open, irregular crumb with a network of translucent alveoli of varying sizes, indicating good fermentation and gluten development. The crumb has a soft cream tone and looks moist but well set.
