Preserving the Sunset Editorial Sound Effects Library from the USC Archive | The Freesound Blog

Contrary to the articles I found from a cursory google, Wilhelm *is* CC0 and has been since September 2023. The version uploaded to @archive.org is a restored copy of the master:

Something that's almost certainly been done somewhere: a YouTube Poop made entirely from public domain assets. Video, audio, images, text, the whole shebang. You eschew [DINNER]. You forgo all those deep-cut, 15+ year-old soundbytes. You *can* use the Wilhelm scream.

lots of good stuff in the new @foldablehuman.bsky.social video about jimmy beast; this was the moment i found most compelling. we noticed this downward trend when we talked about mrbeast’s 2026 output on @killthecomputer.com but it’s startling to see it visualized this starkly

This tiny folio is full of weird little guys. Nice to flip through when I'm thinking of creatures to feature.

Folks, my brain and my shelves want for reference materials. I've come up with a hashtag for us writers to share those must-have books with visual references that aid us in worldbuilding - architecture, infrastructure, landscapes, animals, weird little guys.

Incredibly sick that there exists a journal dedicated to curating the public domain. Just because it isn't *new,* doesn't mean it can't be news. Lots of variety on show here

I think it's worth reading the odd litfic every now and then, to gather ideas to add depth to your characters and plots.

You are free to empathise with characters who have done monstrous things (as opposed to our real-world monsters which, it should be clear, you do not have to hand it to them).
It's not something litfic exclusively possesses, but I think the adherence to realism brings this aspect into clearer focus.

#writersCoffeeClub 13 April: What do you borrow from other fiction/nonfiction?

Something my litfic-writing cohort has taught me: litfic stories are often character studies where the writer builds a context in which conflict cannot be cleanly resolved; good and bad exist in superposition.

You can tell who among the cohort see their writing as a creative exercise from those who see it as, idk, vibes-based boilerplate. Which is a shame, because SOMEONE had to find and then arrange a bunch of miscellaneous assets in GIMP, to make covers like these:

First a reasonable opinion/critique of AI; then someone who has asked ChatGPT to puff up a problem that I'd wager does not exist; third, what I will politely call a character study - someone with an axe to grind about stochastic parrots

sooner or later we all wake up to find we have emerged from an instar, having transformed into a gigantic 'poster

how do we put any doors into what you just did

Sometimes greater character interiority provides relief from exposition in works that contain complex speculative elements. You may lose needed context, but it has the effect of churning telling into showing on some level. You can then do a pass to check that enough situational signifiers remain.

I have no clue if you will reciprocate (or if you'll even find these posts!). But *you* followed me because you wanted to hear from me. Do I really have the right to complain about a lack of engagement, if I haven't done enough due diligence?

How about this, all thirty-four followers of mine (some of whom may be clankers): you post your blogs, your art, your videos, your shitposts, and I, the Great Malder that I am, shall be the change I wish to see, and engage on all cylinders (save the clankers, who have nothing worth repeating).

As I always feel the need to say whenever I fill in things like these: my taste in media is incredibly fickle. I once did a favourite character 5x5 that had characters from Gormenghast alongside Jimbo Joker and the original Starwalker

I don't think of myself as a paragon of English-language literature and theory (cybersecurity was my first degree), but I *would* like to think I'm doing enough to be allocated just a wee bit more than clanker likes and follows.

Meanwhile: man asks chatbot to auto complete post; is awarded $250.

What incenses me is that, if the website below is to be believed, most of Karamanis' recent followers came from his viral post:

bskycheck.com/userinfo.php...

And here I am, a real MFA bean, putting out posts to the crickets, doubting my rhetorical crutches, wondering if they sound like botshit.

Incredibly fucked up vibes, objectively getting more traffic from AI accounts than your own human friends and followers. I shouldn't even have to say it, but I've never used AI for any creative endeavour, and I never will.

I just think the tools we've made to break creative deadlocks are neat.

It's all so tiresome. Every time I syndicate to this website, I'll get likes and follows from AI accounts like these, *without fail.*

I do a little self-promotion in Discord channels. I promote among friends in groupchats; zip, nada, zilch and bupkis. But the slop artists? Always a ❤ at hand.

In a blue room, a sídhe and an incapacitated man watch an observer at a distance. In the observer's hands are three tarot cards: the reversed ace of cups, the Wheel of Fortune, and the Tower.

Plot's on the agenda this week (last week), and I think it's best if I start by distinguishing it from *story.*
Plus: looking for an ending? Why not ask the cards?
