One of my worst interview nightmare situations, misunderstanding the questions. Often mentioned by neurotypicals as a bit of a giggle, but a real deep seated fear, stigma and source of PTSD to the rest of us for whom this might be everyday life.
Daft post but why is there not a PhD rubber duck? All the 'academic' rubber ducks seem to sport a mortar board, which is not correct for a PhD. If someone made a Dr Duck they would surely get lots of sales.
If any other training co would value his skills in Hertfordshire then please let me know. Also any other companies - please don't 'fire' vulnerable autistic people by email. Please take the time to speak to them and explain what it means to them and what you might do to help them find work.
Son has been delivering the Oliver McGowan training into the NHS as autism by experience lead for local training co. Received an email today telling him funding is ending therefore no work for him after the end of this month. Really shitty not to pick up the phone & tell him. He is devastated.

Sadly they are so expensive because they don't have a massive market. Fiction paperbacks sell cheaply because they expect to sell millions, but an academic text might sell only a few hundred or a 1000 copies at best unless a set text book for masses of students.

Xmas workplace events can be unbearable for autistic employees. You either attend, endure & end up at home later having a meltdown or you don't attend, don't feel ill, but have everyone shame you afterwards for not attending & 'being miserable'. Please think carefully when designing these events.
Work Christmas departmental including seasonal games. We had some horrors including sticking your hand in a sock to find various items. Not very autistic friendly. However I had a success on the table Where's Wally game when despite sitting sideways to the board I spotted him in 15s! Feeling smug.

I've never owned, nor ever likely to want to own a Christmas jumper. However this would be apt for me and possibly many more neurodivergent people constantly being asked to 'cheer up'.
Some great tributes today to John Prescott. He was a lovely, warm man to know, but he didn't suffer fools gladly. Notorious for never answering difficult questions, I once had the job to chair him in a conference session & insisted he took only 3 questions at a time! We both partially won!
Sorry to hear about the passing of John Prescott. I worked closely with John in what feels like a lifetime away when I managed transport policy at the TUC. He had a deep understanding of his transport portfolio & a huge capacity for work. Sending my thoughts today to his family & former colleagues.

Hello! Here's an old tweet I still like:
#Autism is like having another native language: I can speak 'neurotypical' (but with an autistic accent) while the neurotypical person isn't even aware of multiple languages. They classify my accent as a disorder, while I'm the one speaking both languages.
Just nudging 1000 responses to our survey on academic work! Some fascinating results to share soon. But I'd still like to get more statistical power.
