The garden has been designed to replicate a planting scheme typical for a Georgian town-house.
From this very garden on the night of 13 March 1781, William Herschel discovered the planet Uranus.
The Herschel Museum of Astronomy is dedicated to the achievements of William and Caroline Herschel. This brother and sister duo were distinguished astronomers and talented musicians. It was from this house that William discovered Uranus in 1781.

The Herschel Museum will be closed between 10am to 11.30am tomorrow (8th April) for a school visit. We will reopen as usual from 11.30am to 5pm.
