Ditto with my 4 year old son. When I recited my story off the top of my head, he said you need to read from a book, so I took printouts and read from there. Then he’s like I want to see the pictures. So I actually drew something. Now he wants me to turn the page and see more pictures 🤣

Exactly! I spent all of last year submitting rhyming poems to magazines that got accepted and published in the US, UK and Australia to establish some credibility. But what can I do if no agent/editor will even take a look? I should stop now because this thread was supposed to be upbeat. #kidlitchat

#kidlitchat But there are very few agents who accept rhyme to begin with. How can rhymers like me make progress without agents backing us up?

#kidlitchat I love to write in rhyme too. Unfortunately, the industry doesn't share my enthusiasm for it.

Thank you for revealing the honest picture. I am a querying #kidlit writer. Is the pushback for diverse stories or for diverse authors and illustrators? I have some manuscripts with universal themes. My name, however, is distinctly Indian. Do I need to start using a pen name to query?

I got a revise-and-resubmit for the story of my heart !!! My very first!! An educational publisher in UK wanted one of my poems but I wasn’t able to sell it since I already sold it to “The School Magazine” but very happy anyway. And lots of rejections, but trying to focus on the pluses. #kidlitchat
