microchromosome regions always tend to be mainly located in the nuclear interior, while macrochromosome derived region near the nuclear periphery. That is the chromosome rearrangements are constrained by their ancestral 3D locations in the nucleus

Do selection target the genome region or entire euchromatin or hetrochromatin that is segregated in the nucleus? With 38 amniote chr genomes and their Hi-C data, we show despite dramatic chromosomal reshufflings, ancestral t.co/67kdI9nyqs
Hi y'all. In the midst of [gestures all around], I managed to write a thing.
If you work with mitochondrial DNA sequences in groups such as birds, butterflies, or snakes, you might find it interesting.
Feedback welcome.

new work from the lab. Degeneration of Y chromosome does not seem to be one-way street. As a refugium of transposons @Alex Suh @valentinapeona.bsky.social , Y chromosome can recruit some genes by accidental TE burst: www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1673852725002243
The difference between doing a project and presenting it. An observation can lead to many avenues of explorations before focus turns to a specific discovery. Presenting it, in a talk / paper, follows inversely, with broad perspectives coming before & after the specific discovery.
We are organizing a symposium in the 4th AsiaEvo Conferenence this December in #Kunming about #appendage featuring the Palentologist Xing Xu at IVPP, Dev. biologist Cheng-Ming Chung from USC and evodevoist @MonteiroLab Antonia Monteiro from NUS. Submit your abstract now!
There will be a special session during @official-smbe.bsky.social 2025 this year to introduce the Mol Biol Evol studies in China: smbe2025.scimeeting.cn/en/web/index.... My student Huangyi and postdoc Jing Liu will be giving a talk in two other symposiums. See u in Beijing!
We have met them already, but when in Beijing, make sure not to miss this amazing set of talks by the winners of the Graduate Student Excellence Award, presented at a dedicated symposium at the start of #SMBE2025. 🙌

@wenjuanma84.bsky.social and I have assembled a great list of speakers on sex chromosome evolution of a wide range of species! Look forward to see you @official-smbe.bsky.social smbe2025 in Beijing on in the Zoom room in July!

Zhu, @zhouqi1982.bsky.social et al. produce a chromosome-level genome assembly of the Amur rat snake (Elaphe schrenckii) using HiFi and Hi-C data (1.69 Gbp; N50 = 215 Mb; 97.4% BUSCO), an important resource for studying snake evolution.
