Woman smiling in front of research poster
Me and my poster had a busy week last week! I presented at the Penn State Gamma Sigma Delta Research Expo and the universityโs Graduate Exhibition. I had so much fun talking about my science and learning about others! ๐งฌ

Jack Gregory explores the diversity of endohyphal ๐ bacteria ๐ฆ of clinical samples of Mucorales
He searched ๐ in WGS data for Mycetohabitans DNA ๐งฌ
Then took that approach to clinical ๐ฅ samples

Me, a white woman with fluffy curly hair and striped dress standing in front of a scientific poster with the figures from the linked preprint
Thanks to those who stopped by at #2025ISMPMI to learn about bacteria that live inside fungi.
It was great to hear your questions. So much to do in this area!!
For those not here, please check out our preprint: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Bhuwan Abbot @bhuwanabbot.bsky.social from the Carter Lab @morgancarterphd.bsky.social
Are the bacteria๐ฆ in a fungus ๐ evolving towards obligate endosymbiosis?
Mycetohabitans doesn't have all the hallmarks of other obligate endosymbionts

Flyer showing the carter lab from UNC Charlotte at evolution 2025. Bhuwan Abbot is presenting a talk on endofungal bacterial comparative genomics on june 23rd in the coevolution I session and Ruth Wright is presenting a poster on bacterial secretion at poster C10 on June 22nd
Heading to #evol2025? Come see what the Carter Lab is up to!
@ruthwright.bsky.social and @bhuwanabbot.bsky.social will be there and would love to connect.

We are *this* ๐ค close to having the first lab preprint posted for work only done since I started at Charlotte and I'm just so jazzed about it.
Also the author list is 1 tech, 1 undergrad, 1 high schooler, 1 rotation student, 2 local collabs, & @bhuwanabbot.bsky.social which is lab goals to me ๐.

I had wrist issues because of typing and sleeping in a bad posture. In my experience, voice to text is TOO DUMB to interpret the many technical terms we use in my PhD work.

Can confirm. Adding the F word to your google searches turns off AI summaries. E.g.:
"how do massively parallel reporter assays work?"
vs
"how do f*cking massively parallel reporter assays work?"

If the early bird gets the worm, doesn't that mean that the population will shift towards late worms in a bi-stable distribution , leading perhaps to a partition of temporal niche?
