I'm hiring! I have 2 open positions:
🔬 Postdoc
🧪 Research associate
We study how animal multicellularity evolved by exploring the molecular logic of cell adhesion using cell biology, 'omics, and tool-building in non-model organisms.

We are excited to be recruiting into 3 Associate Professorship's in @oxfordbiochemistry.bsky.social. Come join us as a colleague and benefit from our vibrant and multidisciplinary environment. Reach out to me if you have any questions. Please repost! (tinyurl.com/48deybuu) (tinyurl.com/4pdvjaft).
We’ve also released the Capitella Genome Project Portal, integrating genome annotation with RNA-seq, ATAC-seq & mitochondrial data, along with an interactive JBrowse genome browser and custom BLAST interface. @abhinavsur.bsky.social @kguynes.bsky.social @neva-meyer.bsky.social @chemamd.bsky.social
📢 We've just published a chromosome-level nuclear and mitochondrial genome assembly for Capitella teleta (~243.6 Mb). Despite a highly conserved gene family repertoire, both genomes show extensive rearrangements, revealing a decoupling of gene family and chromosomal evolution.
GBE | A Chromosome-level Assembly and Functional Genomic Resources for the Model Annelid Capitella teleta
Davies et al. assemble the genome of polychaete Capitella teleta, a model for evolutionary developmental biology, comparative genomics, conservation, and ecotoxicology, generating a 243 Mb chromosome-level genome, and publish a genome browser.

We present METALoci, a tool that integrates #3Dgenome and #Epigenetics to identify regulatory hubs.
Applied to #sexdetermination we uncover:
✔️ Non-coding regulatory region controlling Fgf9
✔️ Meis genes as key players

Chema Martin, wearing a dark blue sweater and green trousers, presents his work in front of a seated audience. Behind him, parts of a slide is visible on a screen. It shows a schematic of a planktonic larva.
It was fantastic welcoming back Chema Martin @chemamd.bsky.social from @qmulsbbs.bsky.social at the Centre today 👏 He shared with us his latest work on spiralian larvae evolution, with fascinating insights on the timing of gene expression during development. Thank you for visiting us!
We are all super happy and proud to see our work on the function and evolution of the #cephalic #furrow published in @nature.com. Let me say a few things about the background and history of this work on the #Evolution_of_Morphogenesis (1/12)
I am in awe of the beautiful and weird genomics of chaetognaths. Extreme levels of genetic innovation, trans-splicing, and much more. So much to learn!
Extraordinary work @ferdix.bsky.social, Laura Piovani, @alexdemendoza.bsky.social and @chemamd.bsky.social!
After nearly twenty years in the making, our attempt at understanding what makes the chaetognath phylum so unique has finally been published! www.nature.com/articles/s41...
