Formed 30,000 years ago when a massive star exploded as a supernova, the material that the star was made from — plus new elements forged in the extreme temperatures of the explosion — blasted outwards!

It took 5000 years for this light to hit my back yard in Victoria, BC :)

I used several short exposures (5-seconds) to preserve Orion’s luminous core.

The Orion Nebula M42 (centre right) and Running Man Nebula NGC 1977 (centre-left) against a backdrop of gas and dust. M42 is mostly magenta in the centre with swirling tendrils of blue framing it. NgC 1977 is mostly blue, reflection nebulosity with some magenta peeping through in its centre. Some bright blue-white stars dot the field with some fainter, yellow-orange stars also visible. Captured with a Skywatcher Esprit 80 ED telescope and ZWO 2600mc camera.
