A small wooden lighthouse stands on the shore. A person wearing a red hat stands on a road leading past the light. Most of he scene is taken up by the sky, which is mostly cloudy. The sea is mostly calm, and shows a marked contrast between areas that are in the shadow of the clouds and those that are sunlit. Ships can be seen in the distance.

The Mi’kmaw word nksalninen and its translation as “we love you” followed by a series of heart-like forms

The Mi’kmaw word nksalninen and its translation as “we love you” followed by a series of heart-like forms

A pretty wonderful Mi’kmaw word and its hieroglyphic or komqwejwi’kasikl form, as used in a Michelle Sylliboy poem. The hieroglyphs are often said to date from the 17th century, but most Mi’kmaq believe they’re much older.

Portrait of Elizabeth Gaskell by George Richmond (1851).

Elizabeth Gaskell is depicted in a three-quarter view, turned slightly to one side. Her posture is calm and composed, with a sense of quiet dignity.

Her expression is serene and thoughtful, with a gentle gaze and soft smile.

Gaskell wears a modest dark dress, likely with lace trim and a shawl or ribbon, reflecting her middle-class status and the understated fashion of the time. Her hair is parted in the center and smoothed back, styled in a simple, elegant arrangement typical of the mid-19th century.

How Important Was Elizabeth Gaskell in the Development of Victorian Literature?

Although her works fell out of favor for many decades, she now has a reputation for being one of the most important figures of the Victorian era.

I think about this a lot -- and also that the public wants to hear about what we learn, more than we think.

His wife and 28-year-old daughter were also killed in this horrendous attack.

This is the second killing of an MSF colleague in just two weeks.
