Modulation of glycosylation in the brain: A single-cell exploration of glycosidases using the Allen Brain Cell Atlas The mammalian brain is enveloped in a dense, charge-rich glycocalyx that orchestrates cell signalling, migration, and synaptic stability. Transcriptom…

As part of a special issue on "Glycosyltransferases", we are pleased that the editors allowed our glycosidase focused mini perspective data exploration article of the Allen Brain Cell Atlas to be part of the collection 😁

It also reminds people that for gene enrichment type analysis, if glycosylation related pathways dont seem significant because the number of genes/proteins changing are not high, be aware that effect and impact of 1 glycoenzyme can be broad

An AI generated image showing a dense forest of glycans on the surface of the cell.

Have you ever wondered how many N-Glycans or #glycoproteins there are on cells?

The numbers are massive: calculations suggest about 20 to 200 million N-glycans per human cell!

This is a fantastic day for Australian chemistry. First Australian chemistry Nobel prize since John Cornforth in 1975, but Richard Robson's work is at least as impactful. #ozchem

When glycan recognition is linked to immune response, you need fine tuning! 😎

Here ⬇️ we show how human Siglecs act as molecular precision tools, recognising the glycan and also the biological environment (or context) these glycans are found in. A 1/5 #glycotime🧵 ⬇️

By deep characterisation of 186 N-glycan standards, we @thencfg.bsky.social have made the most comprehensive targeted LC-MS glycomic assay to date.
Non-reduced native glycan analysis is key.
We hope this enables anyone with QqQ and interest in #glycotime to measure specific N-glycan structures.

A POGase is a huge advance in the glycomics field, which has typically relied on chemical or incomplete enzymatic releases (no Sia).
Expect a lot of multi-omic studies enabled by this (N-glycomics, O-glycomics, and proteomics) since the peptide backbone is left intact.
