Would this be a state matter though?
Where is that?
I just observed a #GreatTit behaving like a #Robin, following my movements in the #garden, going down where I had just worked, and keeping close to me. Has anyone else seen that? @rspb.bsky.social @rspbengland.bsky.social @btobirds.bsky.social

What would happen if you started this in your home city?

Happy 80th #BicycleBirthday, Hayley!

Is #Cycling Dangerous? Between 2004 and 2024:
- pedal cycle #traffic increased by 36%
- #fatalities were down 39% from 134 to 82
- serious #injuries (adjusted) increased by 16%
The most common #roadsafety factor was ‘ineffective observation by either the driver or rider.’ url.td/Tx3zx #activetravel
British citizens who support the #Wildfowl and #Wetlands Trust would do well to make time to respond to this #DEFRA consultation. Be aware #shooting groups oppose regulation in favour of ineffective voluntary protection. wildjustice.org.uk/respond-to-d... @wwtworldwide.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social
Thanks for reposting @redwoodsurfer.bsky.social
Please respond to #DEFRA consultation on the rules around #shooting #wildbirds in the UK. If you care about wild birds be aware shooting groups are pressing hard for little or no regulation. #nature #biodiversity #climateemergency @wildjustice.bsky.social

Rachel Carson died on this day in 1964. #OTD
Pretty much all our fiction involves humans stepping in to save the day. It's very hard to tell a compelling story that involves humans stepping back. The closest I can think of is Ray Bradbury's early Sci Fi that shows the Martians gently fading from sight as humans take over their world.
The divide between #animallovers and #naturelovers - #Muntjac are a non-native, highly #invasivespecies. They destroy woodland regrowth and consume some of the rarest plants, such as orchids, that we have in Britain. They need to be removed, and there is no nice way to achieve that.
The divide between #animallovers and #naturelovers - keeping a cat in Britain (a creature native to the middle east) is hugely damaging to #biodiversity, and most of the food is meat-based, driving the #climatemergency. It doesn't matter how cute you think your cat is.
Over the years I have noticed a greater and greater gap between those who claim to love #animals and those who claim to love #nature. A good example is #fatballs for #birds. These are made of suet, which comes from beef, which is driving the #climateemergency.
Yes, the narrative of conservation groups over many decades has engendered the idea that there is no nature without human intervention. That needs to change, and fast.
Spot the 1990s car.

Next in the series will be "Slaver," the misunderstood philanthropist who helped people of colour by stopping enslaving them and getting paid compensation. "I want to be part of the solution," he says, "but I did give you cheap sugar."
You'd have thought they'd design #racecourses not to kill #horses. After all, those animals cost a lot of money, and money is more important than anything. #grandnational
Is that real? The film quality looks too good for 1969.
Curious: does the road get wider if you live here?
The issue with the #crown is institutional. It's an anachronism. The "royal" family represent an outdated concept of aristocracy and privilege. We are still in the process of becoming a #democracy #DemocracyIsAJourney
The trouble with this kind of othering is that it doesn't take us forward. The people who voted for him have the same status and rights. We need to tackle the causes, medium- and long- term work to overcome this short- and medium-term problem.
D'oooooooh!
We ditched gas last year and have had a perfectly ok winter with our new #heatpump. Great to see the #transition finally gathering momentum. #climateemergency #netzero
A two week #ceasefire so that #oil and artificial #fertilizer can start coming through the #StraitofHormuz? Presumably so we can resume our war on #nature and the #climate. #climateemergency

We try to buy #organic when we can, although generally it costs more. Someone gave us some non-organic cream to use up. I'm amazed at how much poorer it is in quality. #food #naturecrisis #pesticides #fertilizer
There's a gift of forgetting that gets undervalued these days. I have that gift. Mostly it amounts to a kind of disability, but occasionally it really works for me.
Wow, there is absolutely no cycle infrastructure there at all!
