Limiting First Nations’ court access undermines justice, reconciliation, and environmental protection. Indigenous leadership is vital to safeguarding lands and waters. With DRIPA’s amendments paused, we urge the government to uphold meaningful implementation.

Nerd alert: Canada's GHG Inventory for 2024 just released. It shows that progress has stalled (emissions down 0.3% from 2023 levels).

The Canadian energy minister, Tim Hodgson, says "yes" to the question of whether oil drilling can be "woke again", citing Canada's reduction of emissions footprint from drilling as a reason. https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2026-04-15/how-to-make-drilling-for-oil-woke-again
According to PM Carney's energy minister Tim Hodgson - & this is true - oil is now "woke."

A few days ago I discussed the stark warning issued by all 5 members of B.C.’s #OldGrowth Technical Advisory Panel with Jane Williams, Co-op radio. “Purposely causing extinction is not just a moral failure, but also a high economic, ecological and social risk.” #bcpoli #forest #podcast link below:
The dismantling of B.C.'s #ClimateAction Secretariat feels particularly gut-wrenching. It existed for almost 20 years & all past examples of climate leadership from #climate targets to the #carbontax are associated with its work. What are we supposed to tell our kids? @bcndp.bsky.social #bcpoli
BC has eliminated its long-running Climate Action Secretariat.
At least 10 staff members have been sent to work on pipelines and oil and gas.
Meanwhile, this month the City of Vancouver also scrapped its sustainability department.

"Protecting Canada" needs to mean more than militarism and extraction and exclusion. Let's remember to protect the nature that is all around us and that we are all apart of. 💚
Canada and Carney have promised to #ProtectNature. Let's hold them to it >> act.gp/4rJBnYg

B.C. approved mineral exploration in the Tranquil Creek watershed near Tofino — on unceded Tla-o-qui-aht territory in Clayoquot Sound — without the Nation’s consent. These permits undermine the tireless work of those defending rainforests, clean water and salmon.

Two years ago we celebrated Indigenous leadership leading to the creation of new conservancies in Clayoquot Sound. It gave me hope that the BC gov might respect & support at least some Nations seeking to protect lands & waters from industrial threats. It was a false hope. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

As opposition grows, BC is pushing ahead to amend the Declaration Act on an unreasonable timeline despite warnings of the consequences, including legal challenges, conflict and setting back reconciliation efforts. #bcpoli
Over the past 15 years, as public spending in protected parks increased by roughly 50%, corresponding tax revenues, GDP & labour income grew between 51–250%. Yet the new federal budget included no new nature conservation funding. Conservation needs to be treated as a core pillar of economic policy.
This is one of the worst things I’ve seen in Vancouver politics.
Vancouver councillor outrageously lies to Chinese audience that fellow councillor is a drug addict & dealer. Gets caught, forced to “apologize” for lying, mayor commends him for admitting fault.
Then turns out the mayor did it first.
“The climate scientists we surveyed were unambiguous: current economic models can’t capture what matters most – the cascading failures and compounding shocks that define climate risk in a warmer world – and could undermine the very foundations of economic growth.”
Should be the top story everyday.

Now comes news that 🇬🇧 MPs are questioning the farcical sustainability claims that are used to justify Drax’s huge taxpayer subsidies. Experts believe “the company had continued to source 250-year-old trees from some of Canada’s oldest forests via the Burns Lake pellet plant...“
