The @dalfaculty.bsky.social returned to the bargaining table with the Dalhousie Board of Governors at 4pm ADT on Friday, September 12.

Meanwhile, the DFA held its fourth rally on the same day. The union has been locked out since August 20th.

After locking out faculty and blocking email account access for 3 weeks, Dalhousie University admin is now “providing email access to ensure an efficient return to work”.

Never mind that an agreement (contract) has not been signed nor voted on by anyone 🙃

Posturing and misinformation!
Madness.

Dalhousie university threatens faculty with a 48 hr lockout notice during labour negotiations.
Essentially devaluing faculty contributions to the university mandate.

Functional genomics of chitin degradation by Vibrio parahaemolyticus reveals finely integrated metabolic contributions to support environmental fitness Author summary Vibrio species are key contributors to ocean carbon cycling by degrading and assimilating robust chitin polymers. These waterborne and seafood associated bacteria also infect humans lea...

Our Tn-seq paper is out in PLOS Genetics! @plos.org
We found a new Vibrio chitoporin and a key regulator of chitinolytic growth. Lots of other cool stuff too!

Health inequalities which impact the treatment of urinary tract infections Find out about this studentship opportunity on Health inequalities which impact the treatment of urinary tract infections.

PhD studentship available.

The project is VERY interdisciplinary, combing social science, biophysics and microbiology to understand inequalities of UTIs treatment and replicate them in vitro to help choose the correct antibiotic.

Sialoglycan binding triggers spike opening in a human coronavirus - Nature Binding of a sialoglycan-based primary receptor by the spike protein of the common cold human coronavirus HKU1 triggers conformational changes to a state that would allow binding to a second receptor ...

Our latest #virology research is now online at Nature 🎉

Using #cryoEM and MD simulations, we show how a sugar-based receptor can trigger opening of a coronavirus spike protein through an allosteric mechanism 🍬
