Abercastle carries the spirit of a lone sailor. In 1876, Alfred ‘Centennial’ Johnson crossed the Atlantic in a tiny open dory and slipped quietly into this harbour after 66 days alone at sea. A small place with a giant story. #Wales #Pembrokeshire #History #Abercastle #Cymru #Hanes #SirPenfro.

Out exploring the Vale of Glamorgan today and got the drone up between two favourites: one with walled gardens from a long‑vanished estate, and another Norman castle built to guard a river crossing. History did most of the work — the drone was just a bonus. Any guesses where I ended up wandering?

Parts of this now-closed church probably date from the 13th century. The site was in religious use before then. The church is one of several in Pembrokeshire dedicated to Elidyr, thought to be the same person as St Teilo (reputedly born in Penally) who lived in the 6th century.

Cyclists crossing a new bridge over the river Tywi on a bright March day.
The river Tywi sparkling in the sun on a bright spring day with blue sky and white clouds.
The 13 mile Tywi Valley pedestrian and cycle path from Carmarthen to Llandeilo is now fully open. Wonderful views of the river, valley scenery, Dryslwyn and Dinefwr castles. Lots of people out enjoying yesterday- well done Cyngor Sir Gar! #Stunday

If you happen to be heading for the New Quay area in #Wales for the #Easter holidays, this attractive coastal walk to the pretty spot Cwmtydu is worth a look. Chance of seeing Dolphins, seals and interesting rock formations. Great sea views. See www.happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/Cere...

A Puffin flying through the rain.
Puffins have started to return to Skomer, but they'll be coming and going over the next few weeks. You'll be able to reliably see Puffins from the end of April, once they've laid an egg and have a reason to return to the island every day.

Stunning day out on the Pembrokeshire coastal path yesterday
Sunset over Llanrhidian marsh
Nice couple of hours on Gower this evening. My first Swallow of the year at Wernffrwd followed by my first Wheatear at Llanrhidian. Great views of the Pallid Harrier and Short-eared Owl hunting, sometimes together, plus a Peregrine harrying a flock of Golden Plovers. #birdingWales

The river bank forms a diagonal from the bottom right corner to midway up the left side. The river flows between that and the far bank, as a smooth waterway partly reflecting the blue March sky above patched with white clouds. Leafless trees grow along the far bank.
#ourworldiswonderful; I leave you this evening with a shot of the River Wye as it flows between England and Wales, carrying water from the Brecon Beacons down to the Severn Estuary at Chepstow.

Throwback to when we visited King Arthur's Stone on the Gower Peninsula for #StandingStoneSunday
Fifteen volunteers took on peak Welsh weather and still smashed it. We waded a field‑turned‑pond, cleared fallen trees in the woodland, and restored 50m of right of way plus 2 bags of litter. Barry’s team also cleared a watercourse in town. Next up: Bryngarw Park, 21 March, 10–12. All welcome.
It's not raining! So I went for a walk at Porthcawl. Nice to get out in the dry!

A long‑hidden view is back! Trailblazers cleared Footpath 29, litter‑picked the Cefn Hirgoed ridge and improved the descent to Penylan Road. Forty‑five kilos of rubbish removed and 80 metres of path reopened. Community‑led action transforming local places and strengthening wellbeing. #Pencoed #Wales
A photo of Dinefwr Castle from the new Tywi Valley cycle path, which will run 13 miles from Carmarthen to Llandeilo through some stunning scenery. Frustratingly the middle section has been delayed, but the end sections look great.
