I’ve been reading the war diaries of the 59th Division, brigades and battalions taking part in Battle of the Lys recently and writing up as I go along. Those guys went through hell and back. Here’s the GOC in glorious colour.
"The masters of war pretend not to know that it takes only a moment to destroy, yet a lifetime is often not enough to rebuild. They turn a blind eye to the fact that billions of dollars are spent on killing and devastation, yet the resources needed for healing, education and restoration are nowhere to be found." -Pope Leo XIV
The NHS doesn't need a new funding model; it needs investment.
A new IPPR report calls switching to insurance a "costly risk" and a "pointless distraction" from the real issue: chronic underinvestment.

I need to come over to Dublin at some point Mick - I hope we’ll be able to meet up.
Our NHS is a public asset, but private interests are gaining influence over its £240bn budget. When private money shapes public decisions, patients and staff pay the price.
Healthcare should be about people, not profits. 💙
Read the report: Link in bio.
It certainly does Mick. Looks like a great piece of work. How are you getting on? N

Authoritarianism is not predetermined. The defeat of Viktor Orbán in Hungary shows that even entrenched strongmen can be removed by democratic means.
Hope shines bright in Europe tonight.
🤣
Opposition leader Péter Magyar at a rally.
Orbán's electoral crushing is a far greater achievement than most people outside Hungary realise.
He systemically consolidated power for 16 years, fixed the electoral map, abused govt power for political purposes & censored media.
The hurdles that Hungarians overcame for this moment were immense.
The result is huge. Vast in its consequences. Orban was the inspiration to all those who came after him. He served as Putin's puppet, undermining Europe from within and Ukraine from without. He funded a vast network of fascists around the world. It's all vulnerable now, or falling apart entirely.
