..of a movie of a salticid cleaning its leg. If you switch back and forth you can see those lighter shiny structures right behind the fangs (the maxillae) are separate and mobile, like two sides of the mouth. These are generally present in spiders (earthlife.net/spider-anato...). hth! 2/2

Screenshot of a 3d model of a spider, we're looking at the bottom of the "head" with the spider facing down. The chalicera and fangs are visible, as well as the coax of the palp and front legs, and the rostrum. The area between the rostrum and chalicera is circled.

Spider people, I need your knowledge! I'm working on a 3d model of a liphistius (segmented spider). I can't find good info/pics on the "mouth" area, between the chalicera/fangs and rostrum. What goes here? Any features that should be present?

Thanks for the tag! I haven't sculpted anything in this genus, so at some level I'm useless. But I have spent a lot of time studying the same area in jumping spiders. The maxillae are the main structure right behind the chelicerae/fangs. They're hard plates. Here are a couple of screenshots... 1/2

We found this amazing earwig at a bug light last night. This one is a male, they typically have larger pincers. There is not much info available about the genus so I'm not sure why he has those strange protrusions from his abdomen.

#FOFriday and it’s time. I finished my not-so-mini minibeast, the Roly Poly Pillbug! It’s huge. It’s soft. It rolls up and becomes a cushion. It’s perfect 🤩

A macro photo of a slender, tiny wasp atop a batch of katydid eggs. The eggs, which look like brown lima beans, are tiled along a brown grass stem. Four have roundish holes chewed through their sides, where parasitoid wasps (like the one perched on top of them) chewed their way out. The wasp is metallic-copper colored with a yellow abdomen band and large eyes.

From a few years ago: katydid eggs mostly parasitized by tiny wasps. When a katydid hatches, the egg opens like a clam shell; but as you can see (pic 2), if there's a parasitoid wasp inside, they chew their way out. Btw, the baby katydid on my fingertip hatched from the same egg clutch. #BugSky 🐙🌿
