An orange sawfly crouches over a pile of larvae. The larvae are oblong and have translucent yellow bodies and shiny black ends.

A sawfly — species Pseudoperga lewisii — and its many, many larvae. There are only about 50 iNaturalist observations of this species so far!

We noticed these fruit flies are behaving like tiny big horn sheep of fly world so we went back today to see if I could get some photos of the action. Here you have it, a play in 4 acts! Make me wonder if they evolved the elongated eyes for this purpose.

squinting my eyes, blurring my vision, just looking at coarse silhouettes and values... comparing Synemosyna formica's 🕷️ first leg to Camponotus subbarbatus' 🐜antennae...

both seen around 1PM 4/9/26 woods NE Oklahoma (unsure of plant ID - maybe young Verbesina?)

Macro photograph in side view of a wasp-like black ant with long mandibles crouched on a gray tree trunk with antennae raised, looking wary of us. The eyes are bulging black orbs, the legs light red, and the abdomen is covered in a golden sheen.

Lateral view of a Bright orange Polistes (wattii I think) wasp resting for a moment on a black metal windowsill, some darker orange accents striping their body . They are waving their antennae here and have picked up some dust

Same wasp and location but now anterior ventral, wiping their face with a forelimb . I wanted to get a portrait so I gave them a drop of honey dissolved in water which is what they are wiping their face of but they did Not want to look at me

We had a few new micro moths in our Perth Hills garden this week, including this beauty.

I think this is Macarostola ida, a leaf miner of plants in the Myrtle family (Myrtaceae).
