Part of a nebula in space. Layers of gas and dust clouds in different colors, from blue and green shades to pink, red, and black, each indicating light emitted by different molecules, comprise the nebula. The background cloud layers are thicker and puffier, though still translucent, and the upper layers are thin and bright at the edges. Behind the clouds are many small, mostly orange and some blue, stars.

The Tadpole #Nebula, also known as IC 410, is a star-forming region in the constellation Auriga, about 10,000 light-years away from Earth. It is characterized by two prominent "tadpole"-shaped structures, which are actually pillars of gas and dust.

From swirling nebulae, a velvet bloom unfurls,
A cosmic rose, where stardust gently swirls.
Its petals painted with the hues of night,
Where emerald gases dance with sapphire light.
No earthly stem supports this floral grace,
But gravity's soft hand holds it in space.
Its thorns are asteroid trails, a fiery gleam,
Reflecting ancient suns, a vibrant dream.
The scent it breathes, a whisper on the void,
Of elements unknown, forever enjoyed
By wandering comets, in their silent flight,
Drawn to its beauty in the endless night.
A supernova's kiss, a crimson stain,
A memory etched, through cosmic sun and rain.
This stellar blossom, timeless and profound,
A silent wonder, where no earthly foot is found.

Wow! 🤩 2024 was quite a productive year for my #astrophotography journey. Here are 27 of my favorites. I was able to capture each of these images from my KCMO Bortle 6 backyard.

Barred spiral galaxy #NGC3718 is about 59 million light years away located just beneath the Big Dipper. There are also 5 tiny galaxies on the left called #Hickson56 which are about 400 million light years away. I’m so glad this shot turned out so well! #astrophotograhy #space #galaxy #telescope

I recently captured 18.5 hours of data on the Sunflower Galaxy #M63. By some miracle, I got two whole clear nights in a row after a month of clouds. This turned out much better than I expected!

I just processed this photo of the Owl Nebula #M97 that I took a few weeks back. It’s made up of 3 concentric shells, giving the illusion that it’s out of focus. I thought the faint blue halo was a mistake on my part but it really does exist!

This nebula doesn’t really have an official name so I’ve just been calling it the “3 Balls Nebula.” It’s located in the constellation Orion. I ran out of time gathering data since it now sets in the west just after sunset.

Here’s galaxy #M106 which has some Hydrogen alpha ions that you see can glowing in that reddish-pink color. I captured 19.5 hours of total data integration on this one. I really like how it turned out! 👍
