I have a paleontology joke but I don't think you'd dig it.
If you're anywhere near Montana, check out the fantastic Dinosaurs & MOR at @museumoftherockies.bsky.social , March 27-29!
A fossil-filled weekend for families and the public. With an awesome lineup of scientist speakers. I was there in 2024 and loved it!

Something different for #TrilobiteTuesday
This is an X-ray of a Chotecops trilobite from the Devonian Hunsruck slate near Bundenbach, Germany. The soft tissues were replaced with pyrite or fool's gold and are denser than the rock. The X-ray shows the denser material including legs and gills.
My, how the tables have turned since 2025! There has been some very cool work done by Lindsay Zanno and @jgn-paleo.bsky.social demonstrating that not only is #Nanotyrannus a valid genus, but one that contains TWO species! Science is powerful because it can always change what we think we know.
Not many museums would ask for this...... a taphonomic model

@paleeoguy.bsky.social with some refreshing proactive problem-solving proposals for improving and formalizing paleo field and lab skills training.
#PaleoFest2026
Just a quick heads up for those who intended to use the free scale bars handed out at this year's SVP by #PaleoTools: don't...
Thanks buddy! :) You've been a great friend and colleague.
Jeeze no kidding? Sooo...weird, right?
Very cool!
Agreed!
Photos via CMNH (fossil) and Witmer & Ridgley, 2010 (CT model) of a juvenile #Tyrannosaurus rex collected in 1942 from Carter Co., MT. Scan data reveal extent of reconstruction. IMO no publications yet show data sufficient to support the genus "Nanotyrannus". Especially damning: Woodward et al 2020.
Fixed that for you.
New species of #Xiphactinus just dropped @mosasaurologist.bsky.social
My dad and I clowning with a croc skull back in 2010. #museumselfieday

We really need to teach our kids how to spot intellectual garbage. This is a hug hole in our educational system.
