The toads live on land much of the year, tadpoles will die, adult toads will not. A bad breeding year, Common Toads can live for 10-12 years so time for some good breeding years in the future?

The total wealth of UK billionaires is £772.8 billion.

150 people have enough money to...

Build 2000 hospitals.
Pay the entire 500,000 person NHS staff budget for 10 years.
Build 8m homes.

And much, much more.

We need that money, THEY DONT.

I had a great time giving a public talk (followed by a mini-workshop on medieval documents) at Shropshire Archives this week. Is there anything better than talking to people about cool historic documents?! We are so lucky to have incredible county archives. #shropshire #archives #welshmarches 📚

Fear not, Helen, for the North County Church Tour will be back very, very soon for the 2026 season! In the meantime, here's a picture of St Mary's Dudleston from last July - which I'm guessing must surely be one of your ancestral churches?

Key Differences:
Harlequin vs. Native Ladybirds.
Size: Harlequins are usually larger. If a ladybird is under 5mm, it is likely not a Harlequin.

Identification:
Harlequins often have a distinctive white triangle or "M/W" mark on the pronotum (head shield).
Coloration: Extremely variable; red with many spots, or black with two or four red spots (often confused with the 2-spot native).
Larvae: Harlequin larvae are black/dark grey with prominent orange stripes, appearing quite "spiky".

Behavior:
Harlequins are highly invasive, frequently entering homes in large, smelly swarms to hibernate, unlike most native species.

Impact on Native Species:

Competition: Because they are larger and breed more often, they dominate, leading to a decline in native ladybird populations.

Predation:
Harlequins are cannibalistic, preying on native ladybird eggs, larvae, and pupae.
Disease: They can carry a fungus-like disease that is harmful to native species.

Information from the Wildlife Trusts.

Native UK ladybird next to a none native Harlequin ladybird.

Honestly just ban social media until the companies can show they’ve got a grip on this.

I’m increasingly not sure democracy can survive the deepfake era.

This week the Government handed the failed Project Gigabit fibre broadband contract to Openreach, after Freedom Fibre pulled the plug on delivering fast connections to thousands in North Shropshire.

While a solution is good, this risks pushing rural communities to the back of the queue yet again.
