Oooo what do they do?
Yes! My MC is an aspiring alchemist so she uses various natural components to make clever concoctions. The mushrooms are the star of chapter 1! 🍄🔥
Looooove the visual aid 😆
The Spellbound Alchemist - YA Fantasy & currently in the trenches
“To escape capture, Ari makes an ill-advised bargain with a witch and binds herself to a disgraced magician; now they must learn to work together if they have any chance of surviving the coming clash.”

I'm like a houndmaster, chasing a fox in the forest. I hunt with my dogs fanned out on different trails. Some pursue WIPS, some polish query drafts, & a few are happy to engage with my fellow hunters. We seek the same trophy: publishing.
So far, I've been out-foxed.

It hits for thee
This is true! Two other author friends had to tangle with that and luckily found presses to republish them, but it was hairy.
Spellbound is a light YA second world fantasy inspired by nostalgic anime like Howl’s Moving Castle & Inuyasha. The setting/characters read like a D&D campaign.
Trauma buddies! Ringtale survivors! We soldier on.
Hello #CampRevPit
I'm Sarah :D I write sci-fi and fantasy.
My query candidate is the ill-fated Spellbound- would have been published this year if the small press hadn't closed. Boooo. But happy to be here just the same!
I like all the nerdy stuff- games, anime, faire.

#PosterPit
A poster, featuring an illustrated portrait of Aubeline de Sterraux from A LEGACY OF BLOOD AND BONE. She is a white woman with brown hair tied in an intricate hairstyle. She wears a black dress with puffed sleeves and white earings. Aubeline is shown kneeling and praying, her head looking up. The top of the poster is colored, and the bottom part is black and white, the two part being separated by a red stain reminiscent of blood. The title of the book is in the center. Underneath is more text reading "A novel by Millie Abecassis," then a quote by April Yates reading "A gothic gem, rich with dread, desire, and a magic system as haunting as it is original." Under the quote are the names of several characters, listed as if they were actors: Aubeline de Sterraux, Vinnie Anneton, Damarisse de Sterraux, and "unhinged dudes." At the top are Cannes festival-style quotes reading "dangerous body-based magic" and "slow-burn sapphic romance."
Can't wait for Franchaela in Bridgerton's fifth season? While you wait, shall I suggest my sapphic historical fantasy filled with family drama, dangerous magic, and so much yearning?

WINE FOR ROSES by Emily O'Malley Liu is out today! Get your copy in ebook or paperback at shirakipress.com/wfr
“A lushly written novella full of intriguing magic and love of all kinds.” —E. H. Lupton, author of the Wisconsin Gothic series. They say the stolen rose blooms best. When Ethan Keating Mendoza is hired as a gardener at an old Victorian residence in central Indiana, he has one clear mission: make the roses bloom. Ethan's life is roses--he's the son of a hedge witch and a partner in his father's rose growing business--but he has no magic himself. The Kilbride estate is wild and overgrown. The roses have not bloomed in decades, and Ethan fears he may be in over his head. Worse still is Louis, the peculiar trustee of the property, who lives under a bloodthirsty curse that ties him to the garden. But Louis gives Ethan a chance, and Ethan is determined to do right by the suffering roses. As Ethan and Louis grow closer, Ethan becomes increasingly desperate to save the man he loves from the garden's curse. But the garden isn't letting them go without a fight.
It's time to make the roses bloom.

The Best Sellers in Cosmic & Eldritch Horror page on Amazon, showing THE DEVOURING as #17 in a grid of other covers, among them Chuck Tingle's LUCKY DAY (#9) and CAMP DAMASCUS (#10), and qntm's THERE IS NO ANTIMEMETICS DIVISION (#1).
On a whim, I checked THE DEVOURING's rank for its Amazon subcategories, and this might count as one of the most surreal experiences of my life.
While you're all here thanks to this post breaking containment, you are welcome to read a sample of THE DEVOURING on my website. If you like the first two chapters, you can purchase the ebook and paperback from your preferred book retailer. amshilling.com/books/the-de...
Woke up to a DM from a friend who’s reading THE DEVOURING that said, “I’m on to you. I’ve picked up what you’re putting down. I know (I think) what’s going on here.” He then analyzed the story’s references to mythological and religious figures, getting most of it right. This is an author’s dream. 😍
Dusting off an old playlist- it’s time to write some weird sci fi again.
