Cryo-EM Structure of the FtsH Periplasmic Domain Reveals Functional Dynamics FtsH, an AAA + metalloprotease that is essential in bacteria and eukaryotic organelles, maintains cellular homeostasis by degrading misfolded and membrane-associated proteins. Here, we report cryo-EM ...

Our cryo-EM analysis of the FtsH periplasmic domain is now published! This study reveals a previously uncharacterized conformational change in the periplasmic domain, suggesting a potential role in substrate translocation.
Congratulations to the team!

I've also purified ArnA by mistake (who hasn't?). Did mass spec before plunging it though, so never got this nice structure :)

This morning, I wandered around the medical suppliers and tried to find a piece for our project, then I improvised something with the materials we had on hand-so, if you're solution-oriented and take ownership of your work, you solve it.. I hope you don't lose your excitement for doing science!

Dedicated my talk at the opening evening of Biophysical Society proton meeting to Karen Davies.
Karen's work shaped the field of bioenergetics from solving the horizontal subunit-a of ATP synthase to the structures of photosynthetic CI and more. She was a brilliant scientist, mentor and communicator
