It was an honor to provide thoughts in this lecture. #Care is valuable and we need culture and policy to support it.

Exclusive | Trump Administration Cancels Annual Hunger Survey The government has been measuring food insecurity since the mid-1990s but now says the report has become “overly politicized.”

The Administration acknowledged that it will stop the survey that measures food insecurity, just as tariffs push up food prices and the deep cuts to food assistance enacted in July start to take effect. Congress must intervene to save these vital data. www.wsj.com/economy/trum...

Exciting to see #PaidLeave champs gather on the Hill today to recommit to the #FAMILYAct.

Here's an explainer about what's in bill -- and what US workers, families, and businesses could have access to, if only Congress would look at the evidence and take action.

They said we'll "get over it." We won't.

Congress has passed the largest cuts to care in history – gutting Medicaid, Medicare, and the #AffordableCareAct by more than one trillion dollars, in favor for tax cuts for billionaires.

We will not simply "get over" losing our care!

California increased paid family leave payments. Now more parents are taking advantage Starting in January, the state offered more-generous leave benefits. Claims in the first two quarters this year were up about 16%, compared to the same time period last year.

Great news from California, where improved #PaidLeave benefits do what they are intended to: Let people take #TimeToCare for children and loved ones and themselves!

Based on new CBO findings the number of uninsured resulting from the Senate bill is nearly 17 million -- more than the 16 million whom CBO found would lose coverage under the House bill. 🧵

If political leaders could just encourage and fund care for one another instead of rolling tanks to DC to break our streets, things would be much better.

Secretary Chavez DeRemer’s attacks on the Women’s Bureau aren’t accidental, they’re part of a concerted effort by the Trump administration to disenfranchise women. Over the past 4 months, the admin has continuously rolled back women’s rights in the name of defending them. bsky.app/profile/gayl...

Shapiro’s silence on paid family leave stands in stark contrast with Democratic rivals. What gives? | Opinion While other rising-star governors like Tim Walz, Gretchen Whitmer, Gavin Newsom, and JB Pritzker have expanded paid leave in their states, Josh Shapiro has stayed silent on Pa.'s Family Care Act.

Gov. Josh Shapiro has a chance to make history by backing the Family Care Act—a bill that would make PA the first swing state with paid family and medical leave.

81% of voters (including 67% of GOP) support it, via @rwest817.bsky.social and @gaylegoldin.bsky.social.

We're worrying about the wrong thing. Low birth rate isn't the crisis: Child care is. | Opinion Making more babies by threat, faux incentives, or even force is not a goal or a solution. And it ignores the desperate, real needs of families.

“The real crisis is one of care… The answer to the real crisis is not what we can gut and burn and take away from people, but what we can give them, the world we can create.” My piece in @usatoday.com. www.usatoday.com/story/opinio...

Medicaid cuts = skipped doctor visits, missed developmental screenings and fewer mental health services for parents and children. Medicaid cuts drown people in red tape to keep coverage and strip healthcare from those who qualify.

The House Ways and Means tax bill released today is skewed in favor of rich people, is even more costly than the original 2017 law, and fails to deliver for working-class families and small businesses.

AFL-CIO et al. v. Department of Labor: Federal Judge Greenlights Challenge to DOGE

UPDATE: Despite the government's efforts, a federal judge is allowing our case to move forward to keep DOGE from accessing Americans' personal data across three agencies (Labor, HHS, CFPB) to continue. We will continue to hold DOGE accountable in court.

The changes and chaos at SSA hurt all people who rely on its services, but - no surprise - disproportionately harm low-income older adults of color. My @justiceinaging.org colleague @traceygro.bsky.social unpacks why in this piece from Mother Jones.

Paid family leave is the right answer for PA families – and the commonwealth itself Providing such a benefit will make the state a leader in the nation and even more attractive to young families.

As the Pennsylvania Legislature gets back to work on a bipartisan paid family and medical leave proposal this week, let's review the reasons #PaidLeave benefits workers, families, businesses, and the economy and makes PA competitive with nearby states.
