White text on green background. Heading text reads "Didn't the County Already Vote to be a Sanctuary County?"
Answer is yes, sort of.

The County passed a resolution back in December 2025 that asked staff to draft updated language, provide more clarity on what being a sanctuary County means, and clearly define what that means in practice for all county employees, departments and contracts.

Multnomah County doesn't have it's sanctuary policies in County Code. An ordinance would declare the County as a Sanctuary County in the County Code.

This will strengthen policies.

Quoted text reads "As the County Commissioner leading our sanctuary efforts in Multnomah County, I am very much opposed to the County selling or leasing office or detention space to federal immigration enforcement efforts. I included this prohibition in the draft County ordinance because it is the right thing to do. I want to be clear that when it comes to ICE we will treat them like we would any group which disrupts county services. We do not want ICE even staging in our parking lots. It hinders the County staff from doing their work and scares people seeking services. We are a Sanctuary State, and the County can not risk eroding the trust we have built with those who seek county resources or assistance."

Quoted text reads " For private landlords, I ask that you do not support the federal regime in their efforts to sow fear and violence in our community. What is happening is not about immigration enforcement, it is about making people afraid to go about their daily lives and is rooted in racism where civil rights are regularly violated. Please stand by your fellow Oregonians and refuse to be a co-conspirator in this state sponsored violence. "

Background
In December 2025, the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners approved Budget Modification-002-26, allocating $75,000 in one-time-only funds to support community organizations not currently contracted with the County. This funding opportunity, known as the Multnomah Sanctuary Fund, is intended to address the unique needs of groups impacted by immigration policy changes and federal immigration enforcement activities. The program prioritizes equitable distribution across diverse linguistic, ethnic and cultural communities, especially those that have not recently received similar emergency government funding.

This question and answer informational session is to assist organizations seeking funding. It will be held virtually with County staff to answer questions. If you need an interpreter please email us at patricia.bride@multco.us.

The Blazers home is in my district and you all know I'm a huge sports fan! My high school basketball self longed to soar like Clyde the Glide. I know many people, not just friends, whose life stories and jobs are intertwined with this storied franchise. Multnomah County needs to show up as a full partner and I am digging in to what it will take to move a moda center renovation forward.

I have been getting a lot of phone calls about talks to renovate the Moda Center. I have been paying attention to the matter and want to put out this statement.

image of Commissioner Singleton with a quote. The quote reads:
State-funded violence through federal agents needs to end. This kind of immigration enforcement and ICE activity must stop. I know many people are scared right now. We have people dying in detention, agents killing people in the streets, and communities left devastated. My heart goes out to so many communities. The way that federal agents are behaving is unacceptable.

I encourage folks to turn their outrage into action. In times like these, community is critical. To find ways to get engaged, volunteer, or find resources, check out my LinkTree, take MigraWatch training, learn where you can be helpful in supporting your local nonprofits serving immigrants and refugees, find opportunities to connect with your community, and find opportunities for joy.

I am sickened and angry about the escalating violence our community continues to suffer at the hands of this authoritarian federal regime and their ICE bullies. Time and time again, we take to our streets with non-violent protests only to be met with federally funded violence and physical harm. People in our communities are not escalating this violence, they are. The shooting of human beings is not acceptable. Enough is enough. ICE is not welcome here.
