An in-text citation can be placed anywhere in a sentence, but as a general guide:

🔹 "Space mathematical copy as you would space words: a+b=c is as difficult to read as wordswithoutspacing.

Do you ever wonder how many words to change, when paraphrasing an idea from another work, so that your new sentence no longer “counts” as plagiarism? Merely changing, adding, or removing a few words, without rewording, can still be a kind of plagiarism called "patchwriting."
