NEW: Crowd now growing at the Capitol where Cory Booker and Hakeem Jeffries are staging a sit-in on the steps.

Is this building into something?

If you’re in DC, they’re encouraging folk to come down there & support.

In their cowering to racist power, U.S. companies and institutions are trying to silence antiracist voices. They are going to learn (history) today. Whenever this happened in the past, antiracist voices became louder. Became more enraged and engaged. Became more resolute. This is happening now.

Yes Rachel. Each of my 30 years as a public school teacher I saw our plates grow larger and fuller. Right now it’s an over flowing trough. Something has to give. How will new teachers sustain this? Will there be teachers with 25+ years of experience down the road?

Questioning Piaget | Talking Math With Your Kids Note: An earlier version of this post was part of the Talking Math with Your Kids newsletter. The provider I used for that newsletter ceased operating a while back, but I saved all of the content and ...

New (to some!) #tmwyk!

Resurrected and repurposed from the old newsletter platform, a short essay about Margaret Donaldson.

Because of @AFTUnion.bsky.social's advocacy, the House voted to stop penalties on public employees when they retire with the passage of the Social Security Fairness Act. Now it's up to the Senate. Tell your Senators to pass it here. actionnetwork.org/letters/tell...

Velshi Banned Book Club: ‘That Librarian’ stands up to censorship Librarians' careful curation of books are crucial to children’s development, ability to evaluate credible sources, and capacity to cultivate empathy and understanding. In ‘That Librarian,’ Jones argues that book bans not only threaten our freedom to read, but also puts librarians’ lives and livelihoods at risk. “I want my students, and I want everyone in my community to learn to be critical thinkers,” Jones says; and without libraries, this can be difficult to achieve. Moving forward, Jones urges people to take a close look at what’s happening to libraries within their own communities and schools.

“Books have the ability to change lives and save lives,” says @librarianjones.com. Facing backlash for speaking out against book bans inspired her book ‘That Librarian.’
