It's just a door. In fact, it's called a BasicDoor as if there are non-basic doors. But, you can set a clearance level &&|| an access code, and name plate. It opens vertically and the player can close it, otherwise it will close on it's own after 5s.

A boss level in #Project8088. The story, levels, and designs are still very much a work in progress, but it's [slowly] coming along and together nicely.

Sometimes it's the simple things. A door has been added to #Project8088. It opens and closes vertically; has a clearance level; and will have access code ability. It can be closed right away by the player - or after 5 seconds, it will close automatically.

Updated my first venture into the UE5 cinematic camera so that it actually had a non-blank first frame. This is a super quick whirlwind fly through of the Gaming PC level in #Project8088, potentially a boss level.

Isometric view of The Lab in Project8088.
View of the Quantum Transfer Chamber. There are six quantum generators surrounding the transfer station.
The Archive will display information about all encountered/known enemies.
Agent Riley Ames is our protagonist and this is their residence.
Final[ish] form for The Lab in Project8088. The agent won't see the outside of The Lab, but inside will encounter narrative / story points during the game. The hexagon in the middle, the Quantum Transfer Chamber, is the mission launch area.

Feeling this thread right now. Thank you for helping to introspect on my development, contrasting where I am and where I thought I would be.
Was it wrong to chuckle?
My second game video for #Project8088. There is still so much to learn being a solo dev. This video is going from the Residence to the Quantum Transfer Chamber. The video could be better in many ways, but still, progress has been made.

My wife loves weighted blankets - they make her feel safe and cozy. I think both of hers are 15lbs. A bit to move around, but well worth the effort.
Still learning camera movement and video editing - it might take more patience than developing the game itself. This is a quick video starting at a residence and moving to the Quantum Transfer Chamber. #Project8088

Seeing a lot of vertical white flashes in #Project8088. Claude said to check the light map. Yeah *sigh* I think there is problem.

It doesn't look like much, but The Lab is coming along nicely. Upper right: residences with the cafeteria, and recreation center below them. Center smaller hex: Quantum Transfer Chamber. Left: The Archive in the center with spokes for the other narrative areas.

Development side-questing some basic residences for #Project8088. The furniture is Japanese Furniture Modern which can be found on FAB. I simply don't have the talent to do that level of detail.
Next up are the rest of the narrative areas at The Lab.

An in game view of a hallway in The Lab.
Some satisfactory progress on the hallways at The Lab in #Project8088. Getting a little bogged down in the layout of the facility, but just letting myself organically work through it.

The moral failure of humanity is that integrity can be sold and respect can be bought.
Quantum Transfer chamber before revisions. Six pylons in the middle of the hexagonal chamber surround the field space where the transfer occurs. Some panels on the walls have their outline lit. Left side of the image shows entry to other areas of The Lab.
Quantum Transfer Chamber showing 6 pylons in a hexagonal construct with the field transfer space in the center. Wall lights have been updated from outline to full panel. Additional constructs in hexagonal form are positioned higher than the plyons, but go between them, going from each wall to the center of the transfer space.
Ok...so I think I finally have the vision I want for the Quantum Transfer Chamber. The first pic is earlier tonight, the second pic is a bit more industrial. There was also a happy accident with the wall tile light. Instead of an outline, the full tile is lit.

In game view of the Lab Modules in play. There are two modules - one directly on top of the other. The quantum reactor in the middle of the lab space.
Design view of the Lab Modules (one on top of the other). Only the walls are the Lab Module. In the center is the quantum reactor.
Viewport of the Lab Module component consisting of 6 walls in a hexagon.
Viewport of the lab wall component which consists of 24 wall tiles.
Created a module out of 6 walls. Each wall consists of 24 wall tiles that each have their our configuration. But the wall configurations can't be directly accessed via the level in the LabModule because they are child components. May have to rethink a bit.

Basic wall tile in Unreal Editor
A wall of 8 x 3 wall tiles.
Samples of a 8x3 wall being implemented in level. The left wall has the two wider spaces along the bottom row to walk through. The right wall has the center 6 spaces removed as if to create a window.
Created a wall [actor] for #Project8088 where each wall tile can be turned on and off via a binary string for each row. I plan on adding lighting and window options to each tile as well. This should yield some buku flexibility building out environments.

Older version of The Lab. Isometric view of a hexagonal room with the quantum generators in the center.
Updated The Lab with a modular approach to creating spaces. Base module is a hexagon with black walls and white emitting pillars in each corner.
Basic lab module
Created a lab module which can be used to create spaces for The Lab in #Project8088. A little derivative, but the plan is to add signage and lighting as variables in the module to make them a bit easier to configure. Before | After | Module

A cross-section isometric view of The Lab in Project8088. At the center are 6 Quantum generators that go from floor to ceiling in a hexagonal layout. The upper left of the image shows the The Archive - known enemies. Upper center is the observation area.
Current state of The Lab in #Project8088. It has been a neglected area of level development. As the hub and upgrade center to go from one game level to the next, it's time for some updates. More to come!

Time to get back into the groove of #gamedev. The deeper I get into #Project8088, the more I appreciate the industry. It's challenge I'm here for. This 29s video of level 7 is a culmination of learning as I go, hours of wtf, and persistence over the last 7 months.

Put together a little fly through of Project8088's Gaming PC level. Video production / editing is even less familiar to me than game development, so the software (Unreal Engine 5 Cinematic Camera and Canva) is doing the heavy lifting.

Much appreciation for the validation. This is all relatively new to me and it’s reassuring to hear I’m heading in good direction.
Thank you so much!

Struggled to get the gaming pc level to do a new type of game mechanic. So I took a step back, reevaluated, a moved forward with the level. Very happy with the outcome. Still some issues to work out, but aren't there always?

Hopefully things will resolve quickly for you and you'll be able to get back to doing the things you enjoy.
Unreal Engine 5 screen shot of a gaming pc video card with three fans on top. Each blade tip - 3 blades, 6 tips - has a blue pinpoint light with appears as an LED in the game. The fan is set to spin at a rapid speed.
Screenshot in Unreal Engine 5 showing a below angle looking up image of level 7 - the Gaming PC - of #Project8088. From this angle, the player is looking at the bottom of the video card and can also see cooling fans.
Sometimes what seems the simplest of things are indeed simple. After neglecting the modeling tool in UE5, I finally gave it try. That's going to open up a whole new level of development for #Project8088.
First use case: video card fan rim.

[Representative] Memory. Down the road, maybe I can circle back around and add in details. But my goal at the moment is to make things *look* they are what they are without a lot of scrutiny. As a solo dev, I understand only have so much in the tank.
