Yeah, Newcastle is a good show. The organisers really should be checking calendars so they don't clash, there are enough resources out there to see whats going on elsewhere. Obviously some are unavoidable, and yep brands will be looking far more closely at costs these days.

I didn't know that one was struggling too. Wonder why?

Ease into Sunday morning with a VERY LONG read. A #what3whiskies / long read crossover with @billyabbott.co.uk .
A privilege and joy to have spent a couple of hours with a whisky legend.

Cheers Mick. General consensus agrees, but at least one person doesn't. Which is how it should be.

potentially...says same on website, can only buy on site.
Thanks Steve again for your work on this and for The Cairn Distillery for the samples I will be honest, I am not blown away at all. The colour, the flavours are all very similar. With a 70/30 sherry/bourbon and 43% on each, I don't know, it just didn't hit the mark for me. Maybe playing too safe?

Dram 4
30yrs
Palate: almond, surprise. A little spice, drying tanins again. Not moving on much from the 25yr old. Maybe I'm having an off day. But these are all really similar in their profiles.

Dram4
30yrs
Nose: really closed. Then like sticking your head in a freshly opened 'tin' of Quality Street. hints of strawberry, cream, orange, toffee, chocolate all mixed up together. Back of hand adds, toffee, caramel, teeny hint of smoke, Christmas dates (EatMe).
#TheCairnDistillery
Dram 3
25yrs
Palate: sweet, straight into apples, merging into almond AGAIN. Oakiness creeping through, but not as much as the 18. Chocolate covered foam bananas, a little white pepper.
#TheCairnDistillery
Dram 3
25yrs
Nose: coconut, chocolate, bounty-ish, more mint, ale sat in a glass too long, milky coffee. Back of hand adds kiwi fruit, dried fruit, more chocolate (but cheap like dairy milk).
#TheCairnDistillery
18yr old
Palate: really oaky off the bat, softens to almond/cocktail cherries/bakewell tart.. second sip offers touch of salinity, drying tanins.
#TheCairnDistillery
Dram 2
18yr old
Nose: building on the 12, more of that almond, less cereal notes, still cider, touch of coconut ice, peanut skins brazil nuts, menthol cigarettes. Frys mint creme. Back of hand adds a layer of sweet smoky meats, pepperoni pizza.
#TheCairnDistillery
Dram 1
12 yr old
Palate: Oh, almond, fizzy, initially sweet, slightly bitter all at the same time. There's a flavour in the background which reminds of why I don't like sauternes cask finishes. (not saying this is, but is reminiscent).
#TheCairnDistillery
Dram 1: 12yrs
Nose: Orchard fruit, cereal box, peach skin. Back of hand adds a touch of smoke, some kind of toastiness. There's a spiciness there, cloves. Nose feels younger than the age indicated.
A quick heads up for tonight's The Cairn Distillery tasters. No surprises in that we'll be sharing, sipping and savouring in the order of:
1. CRN57° 12 Years Old
2. CRN57° 18 Years Old
3. CRN57° 25 Years Old
4. CRN57° 30 Years Old
Standby for dramfotainment!

These drams are outstanding. It's the first time in a long time I want to buy a bottle or three!!
Great work from the team.

Yesteryear
Palate: Sweet, chewy, dry all at the same time; chilli & orange chocolate, with bits of candied orange peel,
Finish: More chocolate orange, spice easing off...short, but building in warmth.
#TLDCwhisky
Yesteryear 52.3%abv
Nose: Immediate spicy nose, shoving my face in a box of Special K, malty grains, freeze dried red fruits, little spikes of red fruits. Back of hand, reveals a little meatier level, toffee popcorn.
Finish: Lip smacking, chewy, warming, a real physical feel to the finish. Not too short, but long. Lingering orange club biscuit flavour in mouth.
Sooooo good!!

Embarque
Palate: Dry, heavy burst of orange chocolate, mouth hold lets that develop so strongly, I need my M&S giant orange chocolate buttons. Tanins, but soft, not over drying. Second sip building a lovely chilli heat.
