This is an interesting little qual study into veg choices of those with low incomes. Always good to get in touch with views and challenges of real people, especially if your feed is full of highfalutin nutri-babble. www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

Study showing higher prevalence of dental cavities and mouth ulcers in undiagnosed #coeliac - something I personally experienced, and didn’t realise was abnormal until it cleared up with #GF diet! bmcgastroenterol.biomedcentral.com/articles/10....

I caught up on #Severance season 1, and it’s the best thing I’ve watched for ages, but I really hope there is a plan and it doesn’t turn out like Lost…
Research into using #AI to screen for #coeliac disease prior to diagnostic checks risk shows some promise: www.azorobotics.com/News.aspx?ne...
An interesting weekend with getting out of my comfort zone (very literally) to learn skinfold measurement as a tool to monitor body composition changes. Hope friends and family are ready for ‘the pinch’ as I practice! #MNUStudent2024 #nutrition
Word to my fellow summer-born #Coeliac comrades. Did you know your season of birth may have been a risk factor for your diagnosis? ☀️ 🌾 🚫 www.ajmc.com/view/gene-va...

Given the relatively small effect, I was gladdened to see media discussion on whether the benefits outweigh potential harms to people with eating disorders.
This #CochraneReview shows that calorie labelling on menus leads to a small reduction in calories selected and consumed on average. www.cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10....
This observational study shows a correlation between #coeliac diagnosis and increased risk of #liverdisease. The authors recommend people with coeliac have liver enzymes monitored. medicalxpress.com/news/2025-01...
I learn best by ‘creating’ so my end-of-module homework for @macnutrition to create a post about a topic that interested me was perfect. 👌🏼 “Why is protein even more important as we age”, you ask? 💪🏼 🫘 🥚 🥩 🥛 #MNUStudent2024
Promising results in this latest #coeliac Phase 2 drug trial, although would be interested to know if they plan to look at ability to prevent gut damage as well as symptoms www.biospace.com/press-releas...
(2/2)The research team is looking for people diagnosed with coeliac disease or parents or carers of children with coeliac disease to join a Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) panel.

A systematic review (one of the strongest forms of scientific evidence) has found that 1 in 5 people with #Coeliac may not have improved symptoms with a #glutenfree diet. (Although in 33% of those it’s down to accidental gluten exposure): www.physiciansweekly.com/non-responsi...
Haha thank you! I’m by no means an artist, but find doodling helps me to remember
Cheaper sources of naturally #GlutenFree fibre include brown rice, lentils, beans & pulses (of course always check for ‘may contains’ on the label) x
Side note: this can be harder; but is even more important if you have #coeliacdisease; #glutenfree alternatives to whole grain bread and pasta are more expensive p/gram, can be highly processed and lower in fibre. The ‘brown’ in GF brown bread is often from added colouring NOT whole grain?
Did you know that most adults in the UK eat only half of the recommended 30g of #fibre per day? Hitting that total can require you to ‘think fibre’ when planning every meal/snack. Here’s an example of what a day’s meals could look like to get your 30: #MNUStudent2024
Back to the basics on my course this week for this module on all things #protein. I was excited to learn that many plant proteins are as effective as animal proteins for muscle maintenance/gain; although as you can see - requires some big portions to hit your needs! 💪🏼 #MNUStudent2024
The final talk by Dr Nicky Keay on Relative Energy Deficiency was packed with insight (and fab dance metaphors). Love the ideas of periods as your ‘free monthly health check’ and ‘hormone choreography’ Looking forward to learning lots more about female-specific nutrition.
Then Dr. Alistair Monteyne on #vegan protein - great to have my biases challenged by evidence - lots of cutting edge research shows plant protein sources as just as effective as whey for muscle protein synthesis - if you can overcome quantity and palatability challenges 💪🏼
First up, Dr Tom Dale on #performancenutrition for Hyrox & CrossFit. Interesting contrast between the paleo & low-carb diet advocated my many CrossFit disciples; and the (likely high) carbohydrate requirements for optimum performance in the sport.
A very engaging day yesterday at #MacNutritionLive SportsNutrition conference. By no means my area of expertise, but lots of really interesting takeaways (thread) #MNUStudent2024
I imagine would be game-changing for some; though I think I might be too ingrained in my gluten free ways now!
