We are also grateful for funding from the NIH, NSF, and the Hartwell Innovation Fund - Swim Across America.
Congrats team!!
It was especially meaningful to work with long-time friends and colleagues. Many thanks to @sauravk05.bsky.social, Jiewei Jiang, @miadonaldpaladino.bsky.social, Joy Chen, Andrea Gutierrez, @afederation.bsky.social, Frank Szuzlewsky, Eric Holland, and @fleurmferguson.bsky.social for the hard work.
Importantly, our lead degrader shows improved specificity over existing molecules, and our biological studies highlight where degraders can offer advantages in TRK fusion-driven cancers.
Proud to share our latest paper in @rscchembio.rsc.org, where we tackle oncogenic TRK fusions. Together, @sauravk05.bsky.social and Jiewei Jiang develop potent and selective degraders of the TPM3-TRKA fusion, a key cancer driver. pubs.rsc.org/en/content/a...
Pleased to share our recent work out today in @natmetabolism.nature.com. This study addresses a longstanding mystery - NRF2-driven cancers increase cysteine acquisition (via xCT) by ~5x - so where does all that cysteine go?
When broken strands of DNA get repaired improperly, they can stitch together in new “Frankengene” fusions that can cause cancer. Fred Hutch researchers are working to better understand how a fusion called ZFTA-RELA drives rare brain tumors in children. https://bit.ly/4bc8WgG
Here is our updated database of grants for early careers researchers in all fields.
It goes way beyond traditional NIH and NSF funding opportunities. We list 428 types of grants.

So many phenomenal pumpkins at this year’s carving contest!
Congratulations to the Berger Lab for most humorous, the Talbot Lab for most horrific, the @melodygcampbell.bsky.social Lab for most artistic and the @harmitmalik.bsky.social Lab for most scientific!
When #science meets #spookyseason! 🧬🎃 We didn’t think it was possible, but our @basicsci.fredhutch.org and Human Biology Divisions raised the bar once again as they turned their creativity loose on some pumpkins during their annual pumpkin carving contest.
Our work detailing the metabolic roles of serum for cancer cell proliferation is now out at JBC, @asbmbjournals.bsky.social!
Congrats to Oliver and Eric and many thanks to the editor and reviewers for a thoughtful and efficient review process.

The first Nabet lab paddle boarding outing was a success! Couldn’t be prouder of this amazing group — grateful to lead such a committed, collaborative, and inspiring team.
The cover picture depicts a firefly (BSJ-04-146) luring a moth (FAK) to the carnivorous plant (proteasome) and was designed by DrawImpacts.
We turn complex science into striking visuals, like this cover we illustrated for Dr. @behnamnabet.bsky.social et al. on FAK inhibitors and PROTACs. 🦋
👩🔬 Know someone doing great research? Tag them, we’d love to help share their story. #JournalCovers #DrawImpacts #SciArt
