Time at Home matters.

In our study in @sccmjournals.bsky.social, we examined the association between in-hospital rehab & Days Alive & At Home among #olderadults

Extra proud of @yalemed.bsky.social resident Stephanie Kim who led this work during her pregnancy

Restraints are not harmless!

Disparities in use implore us to closely examine processes --> restraint orders in the ICU

Grateful to McGowan et al for this study.

And to editors @annalsats.bsky.social for the opportunity to contextualize it.

We found that older adults of Black race and dual-eligible for Medicare and Medicaid were ⬇️ likely to get rehabilitation services at home compared to those of non-Hispanic White race and no Medicaid insurance, respectively

Using @NHATS_NSOC linked to @MedicareGov Claims, we investigated the association between

🔸 Medicaid status
🔸 Race and Ethnicity
🔸 Education &
🔸Limited English Proficiency

and rehabilitation delivered within 100 days of ICU Hospitalization across home and SNF settings

Thank you for highlighting our work!

1/2 of older adults with post-ICU functional decline do NOT recover; those with social vulnerability do worse

In @annalsats.bsky.social, we investigate the association between SDOH and post-hospitalization rehab
