Write and read, even if others dont.
A complacency has let our modern norms forget how valuable an educated, and well-read person is.

This is not elitism, but how fulfilled a mind is, that takes advantage of available knowledge and resources.

Sight-reading is not intuitively appealing to practice, but now it is a mandatory daily exercise.
Of course Bach's 48 is arguably the greatest resource for this.

Baroque in general should prioritized. <<

I write, and have written, what I call 'artisanal poetry'

Poetry that isn't reflecting the life and thoughts of the poet, but rather exist as an artform to explore and ideas and imagination, unbound to one person's perspective.

Many poets and poetry lovers, don't 'block' off their readings enough.
Before you begin reciting, and after, there should be a beat, usually silence, that bookends a poem.
Even on many podcasts and YouTube videos have I seen this not applied.

I've published two collections of original poetry. Digital versions on sale only a bit longer!

Scheduling some book signings for the summer.

Maybe even recitation for the internet, food for thought.

I've written poetry, I play piano. They both start with 'p'.

'And Rachmaninoff seeps through my fingers,
Striking the spirit, under the spell of a land lost to exile
Buried in foreign soil, the seed of memories of Moscow were never to be forgotten'

When I was bedridden, I finally sat down and watched 'Cleopatra' (1963) in one sitting.
It was very good, but Elizabeth Taylor's performance was really outdone by Richard Burton and Rex Harrison who really carried the story.
Marketing is everything.

American and Western Guitar is devastating. The advent and use of the pick really prohibited a better exploration of the instrument.

Yet, with so few resources being used. Some great music came out of it.

The irony.

I enjoy a good ballet and a good opera. They may be niche, but the general public arguably has poor taste.

Any opinions? The headline says it all if you can't go past paywall.

"...More than prose, poetry is inherently about the musicality of language...But poets, unlike rappers, are not generally performers, and it shows when they recite their work for an audience..."

With extra free time from snow, mostly used it to practice classical piano technique.
Somewhat structured, slightly chaotic.
Volume helped, quality not at all absent.

Here is a snippet of verse mastery from one of the great romantics of the era.

His preludes, and others are worth discovery and coming to your own thoughtful conclusions.

Staying with the classics!

Poems are famous for love confessions and letters. This was from Donne to his Wife, not to be so upset at their separation.

Let not your partner get away with sending you anything less!

How do you all feel about poetry in translation?

Some people are ardently against it, but I for one am for it.

It opens the door creatively, that otherwise might have been closed.

Translating though, is an entire art unto itself.

Artisanal Poetry: Poetry written for the sake of the craft and art itself. Unrelated to the inner and personal life of the poet.

More common historically, less so in modern age.

It is how I write, a crusader to bring it back.

Yes, words fall out of usage - and one doesn't want to come off archaic.
Word dependent, but encouraging a wider use of language is never a bad thing.

At the very least, writers must!! ๐ŸŽบ
