Happy weekend! How is your garden doing? Today pulled out dead plants and replanted existing ones. Didn't get enough soil so have to do another garden center run. Currently have basil, salvia, green onion and green beans. Put some broccoli and dinosaur kale seeds also #zone10b #vegetablegardening

While hollyhock is a biennial, this one bloomed in 6 months. They get blooms more often in this climate.

Lately lots of birdwatching since the neighborhood sparrows found my feeder. Learned that this mesh combo + mixed birdseed meant more frequent refills.

No rats so far but the squirrels grab any seeds spilled.

Biquinho peppers, cracker jack marigold, salvia, giant salmon rose zinnias,sweet Italian basil seed starts

Told the husband this morning I wasn't going to plant any more seeds before our vacation but he was really looking forward to biquinho peppers. Scheduled the sister for vacation plant duty and then started these seeds today.

Crowded bed tour:

Marigolds, chrysanthemum greens, perilla leaves that are hiding under San marzano tomatoes. I am temporarily housing hollyhock and poppy flower seedlings in between two types of cucumbers. Need to trellis the back tomato and cucumbers.

I saw somewhere that they put stuff in box store marigolds to keep them short. Mine from Home Depot are short but the ones from seed are getting tall.

They all look so happy!

All good. The toddler will get trauma if I kill his strawberry plants so doing my best to keep them alive 😩

It is not even noon yet here in #zone10b and my plant leaves are already burning. One had burn marks from the previous heatwave. Moved to dappled shade in the meantime while we ride out the weekend heatwave.

Need to go get more shade cloth.
