The scale of silk patterns in the #1720s was much larger than designs that followed later in the century. Mantuas such as this used fabric that featured the boldest of flora in great swirls, patterns that were then disrupted by perfect pleats #nasjonalmuseet #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

The Decree of the Sovereign Regarding the Sale of Pickles and Vinegar by Pickle Sellers and Only Vinegar and Cabbage Pickle by Grocers: It is reported in the petition of the state authorities that, based on the Supreme Decree issued by the sovereign, when reviewing the documents and commands in possession of both parties, according to the ancient practice until now, the pickle sellers have been authorized to sell various kinds of pickles, vinegar, and cabbage pickle, while the grocers have been restricted to selling only vinegar and cabbage pickle. Furthermore, it is noted that in the years 1127 on the 28th of Muharram, and in the 13th of the same year, grocers were selling vinegar and cabbage pickle. The command was issued for the pickle sellers to refrain from interfering with the grocers' sales and to comply with the established orders. Thus, it was announced that in accordance with the instructions given, any violation of the longstanding practices by the pickle sellers should be prevented. In particular, in the year 1136 (Safer al-Khayr) on the 12th day, a new decree was issued, reaffirming that pickle sellers may sell all kinds of pickles and vinegar, while grocers may only sell vinegar and cabbage pickle, and they were warned not to interfere with each other's sales. This decree was communicated with the official seal of the sultan and the royal commands, requesting compliance and reverence. The order is for those who are in charge. October 19, 1726
